Georgia investigating double voting in primary election

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia's top elections official said Tuesday that his office has identified about 1,000 cases of double voting in the June primary election -- a felony he's determined to see prosecuted.

These voters submitted absentee ballots but also voted in person, a problem that happened across 100 Georgia counties, and election officials didn't catch them in time to keep the second votes from being tallied, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said.

“No one gets to vote twice. Everyone gets one vote,” Raffensperger said.

It was not immediately clear whether the outcome of any races may have been affected.

1. Ignoring warnings from election officials, Trump again suggests supporters should try to vote twice

Perhaps the voters will say that they were just trying to test the voting system as a concerned citizen as suggested by Trump. More likely, it is an elderly voter who forgets that they voted by mail, then shows up to vote in person.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/05/politics/trump-vote-twice-north-carolina/index.html

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump suggested to his supporters on Friday night that if they vote by mail they should also attempt to vote in person as a way to check that their vote is counted, which risks causing chaos at the polls and undermining confidence in the election.

In a North Carolina "telerally" Friday night, which was later posted on Facebook, Trump spent the first few minutes of the call explaining in detail how he wanted his voters to vote. If they vote by mail, they should go to their polling place anyway to "see whether or not your mail-in vote has been tabulated or counted," Trump said, noting that if it's been counted, they won't be able to vote.

It's a federal crime to vote twice in the same election, and it's also a felony in almost every state, including North Carolina.

Trump also addressed the possibility that a voter's mail-in ballot would be tabulated after they had voted in person. "If it has not been counted, vote -- which is every citizen's right to do -- you go and vote. You press the lever and vote. So if it hasn't been counted, if it doesn't show up, go and vote, and then, if your mail-in ballot arrives after you vote, which it shouldn't but possibly it could perhaps, that ballot will not be used or counted in that your vote has already been cast and tabulated, so this way you're guaranteed to have your vote count," Trump said. "So send it in. And then see and then vote and let's see what happens. You're now assured, though, that your very precious and important vote has been counted."

in the entire country over the last couple of decades, you wouldn't come up with anywhere near 1,000 cases.

... forgot they voted absentee, so voted in person. Plus, I'd bet most of these people voted Republican, so let's offer them a bit of courtesy.

I think we will find that almost all the voter fraud is by republicans. They know what they are doing, and if we "give them the courtesy" they will know they can get away with it. Laws don't inspire adherence if there is no penalty for breaking them.

You don't forget that you voted by mail. You took the time to request it, fill it out, and send it in/drop it off.

LOCK THEM UP!

from what I've heard, no close races were impacted by these votes.

I'm also wondering (hoping) if the fraudulent voters will lose future voting privileges. Unfortunately, 1000 of the "bad guys" is nowhere near the 200,000+ qualified voters who were disenfranchised by Killer Kemp in 2018. (Give an assist, in sports terms, to CJ John Roberts for opening this door.)

you should be given a provisional ballot. If there was a system to check mail returns that was efficient, regular in-person voting could occur. Calling the office to check it too slow and ballots are still coming in for the next several days. Because of Trump, this will be an even bigger problem and will slow down processing the count. So many more reasons to vote by mail and get your vote in early.

They wouldn't let you vote twice if you requested the ballot. You could only vote provisional and then if you mail ballot is counted, your provisional will not.
