Mike Bloomberg to spend at least $100 million in Florida to benefit Joe Biden

Source: Washington Post

Former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg plans to spend at least $100 million in Florida to help elect Democrat Joe Biden, a massive late-stage infusion of cash that could reshape the presidential contest in a costly toss-up state central to President Trump’s reelection hopes.

Bloomberg made the decision to focus his final election spending on Florida last week, after news reports that Trump had considered spending as much as $100 million of his own money in the final weeks of the campaign, Bloomberg’s advisers said. Presented with several options on how to make good on an earlier promise to help elect Biden, Bloomberg decided that a narrow focus on Florida was the best use of his money.

The president’s campaign has long treated the state, which Trump now calls home, as a top priority, and his advisers remain confident in his chances given strong turnout in 2016 and 2018 that gave Republicans narrow winning margins in statewide contests.

“Voting starts on Sept. 24 in Florida so the need to inject real capital in that state quickly is an urgent need,” said Bloomberg adviser Kevin Sheekey. “Mike believes that by investing in Florida it will allow campaign resources and other Democratic resources to be used in other states, in particular the state of Pennsylvania.”

It plays heavily on Italian-American stereotypes for comedic effect. Would it still be a "good ad" if it made fun of blacks or Jews? Didn't think so!

There no obvious indicator. "Cankerous Business Owner from 1900" could be anyone!

Pretty much all the business owners back then were cranky, regardless of ethnicity.

has peddled stereotypes to market products for centuries, which is why even today, you still have Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben's - supposedly to be "renamed/rebranded"...maybe...one day.

If he could focus on GOTV especially amongst Hispanics, there's a chance to kill the chance of Trump trying to steal the election in the days after Nov 3rd. Florida do the mail in voter background check as they go along, so they're well positioned to give the final result far faster than other states. If Biden wins Florida early, it would kill Republican enthusiasm to challenge every mail in vote around America.

who can't vote until their court costs/fines get paid off.

That number is way less than the amount needed to pay off all the poll taxes the republicans issued on former prisoners.

The donations were falling way short of the total amount needed to reinstate voting privileges for the former prisoners. That's why I'm hoping Bloomberg will step in.

If so, then all eyes will be on Florida election night, as they count absentees as they are received, so tallies can be released immediately when polls close, unlike other states.

Drop boxes means minimal dependence on USPS to deliver ballots in time.

I read he was going to wait until the campaign got rolling but I thought he was going to spend mostly on state races. This is a BIG plus for us and will really help nail FL.

In March, Bloomie pledged $1 billion to defeat Trump and the Republicans in November, whether he was the nominee or not. Up 'til now, he's spent precisely $0.

Now, maybe he'll come through this time. Or maybe he's just going to prove to be a typical New York billionaire like someone else we all know, full of big talk and flamboyant gestures but never making good on any of it.
