Justin Fairfax announces run for governor in Virginia

Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) announced Saturday that he will run for governor in 2021.

Fairfax made the announcement at the Old Court House in Fairfax, Va. after saying Thursday that he was in the process of filing candidacy paperwork.

Fairfax would be only the state’s second African American governor. State Del. Jennifer Carroll Foy (D) and state Sen. Jennifer McClellan (D), both of whom are African American lawmakers, have also declared their candidacies. Terry McAuliffe, who served as governor from 2014 to 2018, has filed paperwork for another run.

Fairfax's announcement comes nearly two years after two women accused him of rape. Meredith Watson, a former Duke University classmate, said Fairfax raped her in 2000. Vanessa Tyson, a professor at Scripps College, said Fairfax assaulted her in a hotel room at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

6. hmm. I don't care for Va.'s one term limit; many D's have

served as US senators and governors, like an exchange- recently Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Chuck Robb.

IIFC correctly repugs pushed that whole thing because they thought the had Northam on the run and could gain the state house.

His libel suit against CBS for reporting on the women was tossed.
Both women have stated they were willing to testify.

Repugs wanted the state house. They're not above dirty tricks. Why wasn't it pushed?
