Wells Fargo CEO apologizes for saying the Black talent pool is limited
Source: CNN
New York (CNN Business)Wells Fargo CEO Charlie Scharf has apologized after he blamed the lack of diversity at the bank on "a very limited pool of Black talent to recruit from."
In a memo to employees released by the bank, Scharf apologized for what he was was "an insensitive comment reflecting my own unconscious bias."
"There are many talented diverse individuals working at Wells Fargo (WFC) and throughout the financial services industry and I never meant to imply otherwise," he wrote. "It's clear to me that, across the industry, we have not done enough to improve diversity, especially at senior leadership levels. And there is no question Wells Fargo has to make meaningful progress to increase diverse representation."
Scharf's original comments, which were first reported by Reuters, were made in a June memo following widespread protests about the death of George Floyd and calls for greater diversity in corporate offices to address systemic racism.

(5,127 posts)I am firing off my letter today asking for his resignation. I know I am just one voice, but you don't get to get rich off of black folks and disparage them at the same time. Despite the unethical practices a few years ago, I kept my Wells Fargo acct, my mortgage was with them as well. But at some point you have to stand on principle. I will be letting them know I will be closing my accts and will encourage family members and friends to close their accts as well if he does not resign or is fired.

I'm not surprised that this CEO couldn't find enough "talent" among people of color, most of them are too smart to even apply for a job in this criminal organization.

(3,164 posts)As much as I may have disliked some things and people at State Farm when I worked there, we had an abundance of very competent people of color, thoroughly corporate to the point they'd bleed Pantone 485. And this was over a decade ago. Any corporation can find and assimilate a massive pool of talented, hard-working completely indoctrinated POC if they want to.
