Trump Ally: Kelly Loeffler Offered Trump $50 Million to Help Get Her Opponent Out of the Race
Source: Daily Beast
A leading congressional ally of President Donald Trump alleged last week that Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) threatened to withhold financial support for the presidents re-election effort unless he helped get her top Republican opponent out of the race.
According to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Loeffler or her representatives approached the Trump campaign and offered to spend tens of millions of dollars on Trumps behalf. But that financial support would only come, Loefflers team supposedly said, if Trump helped convince Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) to drop his Senate bid. Gaetz supports Collins and was speaking at a campaign event.
This is what the Loeffler team went to the Trump team with, said Gaetz. They went and said, Look, you guys gotta get Doug Collins out of this race
She said, I have $50 million for this project, and I can either spend my $50 million getting new voters and helping the Trump campaign, or I can spend that $50 million taking out Doug Collins.

I'm hopeful Warnock will slide in for the run-off, but one would have to bet on the GOPer taking it. Warnock has been running some great ads, but Georgia is still a rube state until we actually win an election.

(3,635 posts)In a special election for Georgias second Senate seat, the poll shows a three-way virtual tie in the so-called jungle primary between GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed to the seat earlier this year by Gov. Brian Kemp, GOP Rep. Doug Collins and Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock.
Loeffler leads the pack with 23 percent support, followed by Collins with 22 percent support and Warnock with 21 percent. Matt Lieberman, also a Democrat, registered 11 percent support in the poll. The survey represents a major upswing for Warnock, who is backed by Senate Democrats campaign arm Wednesdays poll shows a 12-point climb for the Atlanta-based pastor since July.
The survey underscores the certainty that the special election, which is set to take place on Nov. 3 along with the other races, will head to a runoff in January between the top two candidates. It also raises the possibility that Januarys runoff could be a two-party race, rather than a showdown of conservatives between Loeffler and Collins.
The Monmouth University poll surveyed 402 registered voters in Georgia by phone from Sept. 17-21. Results from the survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

(101,407 posts)and Loeffler is pretty toxic with her insider dealing, so it's not that surprising to see some Republicans thinking they need another candidate.
