US networks interrupt Trump's live speech over disinformation concerns

Source: France 24

Issued on: 06/11/2020 - 10:52

Several US TV networks late Thursday halted live coverage of Donald Trump's first public appearance since election night after concluding that the president was spreading disinformation.

Trump unleashed a flood of incendiary and unsubstantiated claims in a 17-minute address, insisting that Democrats were using "illegal votes" to "steal the election from us".

"If you count the legal votes, I easily win," he claimed. "They're trying to rig an election. And we can't let that happen."

The president spoke as late vote counting in battleground states showed Democrat Joe Biden steadily closing in on victory.

"OK, here we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the president of the United States but correcting the president of the United States," said MSNBC anchor Brian Williams, as the network quickly ended its live coverage.

NBC and ABC News also pulled the plug on their live coverage of Trump.

Record them, and then air them with the disclaimers all over the screen (as well as voiceovers and interruptions for those listening and not watching).

OTOH, that virus is harder to control until a vaccine is available and a TV network can't do much about that ... but they can pull the plug in real time on a wanna be dick tater spreading total lies, attempting to interfere and sabotage this important election and dangerously inflaming his highly unstable cult.

... de jure he is, but de facto, not. So they no longer give him the consideration, especially when trying to dispute the de facto.

when NBC News cut away. A disembodied voice cut in and drowned out the orange menace saying, in effect, ‘OK, that’s enough of that shit. The lies are too much.’

seems to have entered the vocabulary of main stream media in recent days.

GOOD. You cant fight or change something unless you can identify the prolem.

The word has a specific meaning. Disinformation is similar to common ordinary "lying," but it also means there is a concerted political apparatus disseminating the propaganda.

Often in re: to social media shutting it down - must have heard that word 20 times in the past 3 days - on pbs, abc news, etc. Course they are still referring to Trump statements as "baseless claims" which i guess is another word for lie.
