Not surprising, in the end, though still very sad.

(9,372 posts)I remember an episode of "Touched by an Angel" in which the (non-angelic) main character told (and showed) Monica that she had a standing date with Alex every day. He inspired that kind of response. And he was also an inspiration to so many when he as diagnosed - such courage and determination.
Other game show hosts should - but probably won't - follow his example.

(68,464 posts)M-F is our ritual. The NYT publishes the Final Jeopardy query M-F. Hubby is a bad sport and bans any discussion of the FJ at dinner. So if I know it, I have to gloat silently...
He always looks so great that we forgot he is terminally ill...

We get this streaming channel called "Buzzer" and occasionally I'll see Alex Trebek when he was the host of "Concentration". I always chuckle at the prizes that were being awarded... it's a fashion and technology time capsule that's fun to peek into.

(70,682 posts)We get Jeopardy! six nights a week. I think it's "taped" a month ahead of time. He looked well the last time I saw him, so the end must have come quickly.

(4,416 posts)I dreamt about her last night and woke up crying.
Her cancer did not actually metastasize, but she seemed to go downhill after 11 months of chemo and radiation. She started having mini strokes and they determined that the lesions hadnt really shrunk that much. She passed away three weeks later.
I am sad because she was originally from Philly and would have loved to have watched her birth place bring it home.
Pancreatic cancer is just terrible.

(221 posts)Jeopardy was by far my favorite game show. Like so many folks I watched Jeopardy since it debuted in 1984. Alex made America smarter and better. This link from Vanity Fair goes into more detail:
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2020/11/alex-trebek-television-mainstay-for-decades-has-died-at-age-80
quoting from the article:
In The Hollywood Reporter interview, he reflected on Jeopardy!s legacy: Appreciation for the learning process. An appreciation for curiosity, wanting to know more. That's very important. We keep hearing about the problems with our education system in the United States, how we do not measure up to kids in other lands. Well, we can overcome that very quickly in all subjects if the children are encouraged to use their imaginations and their sense of curiosity and probe into different areas.

(6,474 posts)I was on the show, back in 2019. Alex Trebek is every bit as nice a person in person as he seems to be on television. I've been exchanging messages with some other Jeopardy vets. We are all hurting today. It's like losing a family member.

(40,915 posts)Different commercials for Jeopardy vs Wheel of Fortune.
Several years back, there was an article about the commercials for the two shows.
The caliber of commercials was quite different because they are basically two different audiences.
