USPS 'Whistleblower' Told Agents Project Veritas Penned His Ballot-Tampering Claim

Source: Daily Beast

A postal worker whose allegation of ballot-tampering was at the center of Republican efforts to challenge the outcome of the presidential election has admitted to investigators that Project Veritas actually penned the affidavit laying out his claims. A two-hour audio recording released by Project Veritas on Wednesday shows Richard Hopkins being interviewed by federal investigators over his claim, first publicized by Project Veritas, that he had overheard a postmaster instructing workers in Erie, Pennsylvania, to backdate mail-in votes to meet the Election Day deadline. The audio had been touted by the conservative group as proof that Hopkins was manipulated by investigators but still stood by his allegations, despite House Democrats saying earlier this week that the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General told them Hopkins admitted to fabricating the claims.

But instead, it captured him doing the very opposite, according to The Washington Post. When he was asked if he wanted to stick with his claim about ballot-tampering, Hopkins said, “At this point? No.” He said his allegation had stemmed from “assumptions” he made after overhearing tidbits of staffers’ conversations in the mail facility. Hopkins told investigators not only that his affidavit was written by Project Veritas but that he wasn’t even entirely sure of what the group had included in it because he was in “so much shock I wasn’t paying that much attention to what they were telling me.” A spokesman for Project Veritas acknowledged having a hand in the affidavit but insisted that the “affidavit was drafted with Mr. Hopkins’ input and requested revisions,” according to the Post.

Many of these bogus witnesses to voter fraud are going to see things differently in an interrogation room.

Trained agents are really good at dislodging the truth. It's one thing to watch an interrogation on YouTube and think, "Heck, I can fool these idiots" and another entirely to spend a couple of hours under the scrutiny of experts in questioning witnesses.

Hopkins told investigators not only that his affidavit was written by Project Veritas but that he wasn’t even entirely sure of what the group had included in it because he was in “so much shock I wasn’t paying that much attention to what they were telling me.”

I think the guy just got caught. He and Project Veritas cooked up a crooked, goofy scheme that went bust. Now he's claiming childlike innocence.

and how it does or does not work. So unless the media is willing to educate people about the whole reality or the workings inside it should not give ignoramuses a soapbox. Any USPS employee badmouthing the service in this way especially is not good for their future employment. Anyone actually attempting to tamper with the mail will be breaking rocks in Leavenworth as their only retirement benefit.

What actually happened was that ballots were expedited even by express, postmarks(of the day received!!!) ensured, short postage ignored and the order was out to all management to do these things and all things necessary to accomplish the above. Ironically, people have been educated for years now of the "relaxed" service standards. The vast, vast bulk of ballots arrived weeks before the election and tapered off dramatically the final week. The unique several methods of voting obviously swelled the number overall. If you watch a video of states working with USPS solely you see a totally organized system that ensures fewer falling in the cracks- like voters messing up the envelopes, bad addresses. Still, those are very few.

The ballots mainly came through my business mail machine. As a rough guess the major city ballots far outweighed the towns in a way that suggests that pro-Biden votes dominated in the mail. This is upstate NY. I am sure that such estimations are key in judging the outcome of mail in ballots as atypical as this year makes them. Real absentee ballots for Pennsylvania were almost completely done(I never saw one the final week) way before the date. Ballots were checked, rechecked, Lord knows how many times for a legible cancellation date. The only ballots trickling in, a couple a day? one can only guess at the reason. Ballots from overseas(all dated!) are still popping up from as long ago as September. People paid express mail postage on election day to get their ballots more assurance.

At our place no backdating, as irrelevant that would be regarding the election numbers, only to your prison term.

We did our jobs- with belated encouragement from our Trump toady PG-USA. Experienced hard working clerks. Now we have to see about the loser's revenge agenda which not all Americans understand is "defunding the USPS" by doing nothing. Then the barbaric ravaging of the public commons(as opposed to the decades long gradual privatization moves!) by selling off the universal service to make a few rich people richer). We joyfully await POUTUS's scorched earth tantrum.

This man should never have been allowed to be President. I have been absent since election night 2016 for that reason. He would have "won" again if not for bungling a quarter of million Americans to death. Since the Whiner in Chief has declared open season for election purity how about more stridently dissecting the GOP crookedness? That's the only thing that shut Nixon up.

Every nation historically in times of trouble or orneriness goes enthusiastically for the worst form of patriotism and the most irrational form of nationalism. This one might have gone to the negative without the poor quality of the current demagogue. Most products of this type of national will are terrible. Luckily, we had the most incompetent.

All those problems we are still fighting today - rent assistance, mortgage assistance, voters to the polls, police brutality, active in 24 states - extremely effective at what they were doing for over 40 years - after the pimp video came out, Dem's threw them under the bus, and instead of actively supporting them by donating and keeping them going, all federal funding was stripped out of the budget for ACORN and that was that. An over 40 year old network dismantled at the snap of the fingers. We'd be so much further along in fighting the good fight instead of helping Teabaggers & PV make a name for themselves...

I'm still bitter about it. ACORN started in Little Rock, Ark and was aware of what great group and the work they were/are and couldn't understand the lack of help from the 'wokes'. Van Jones being forced out of the administration came soon afterwards..
