Shelton's Fed Candidacy Hits Setback in Senate

WASHINGTONSenate Republicans failed to secure enough votes Tuesday to advance the confirmation of Judy Shelton to a seat on the Federal Reserves board of governors.
The outcome indicated that Ms. Shelton, an outspoken critic of the central bank who is close friends with Mr. Trumps economic adviser Lawrence Kudlow, doesnt have enough support to win Senate backing.
The vote was expected to be close due to opposition from a handful of Republicans and all Democrats.
Ahead of the procedural vote, three RepublicansSens. Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine and Lamar Alexander of Tennesseesaid they wouldnt support Ms. Shelton, citing both her unorthodox policy views and apparent inconsistencies in those views as Mr. Trump weighed selecting her for the seven-member Fed board last year.
