Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson tests positive for COVID-19, per report
Source: CBS sports
The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the Baltimore Ravens this past week, and it now has reportedly affected their best player. On Thursday night, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson tested positive for the coronavirus. The Ravens were scheduled to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night, but the league was forced to reschedule the matchup due to the Ravens' COVID-19 outbreak.

(21,323 posts)although I agree that is the best option. A forfeit won't happen because none of the players get paid, including the Steelers, correct me if I'm wrong. Losing a game day check isn't like calling off work from the paper mill.

(65,010 posts)...they have 12 players positive.
And, the take was that an unmasked strength coach tested positive first, then boom!
Even in the NFL, the strength & conditioning room is only so big. And a guy who basically works just in that room went unmasked.
Forfeit talk came up, but it's more likely they move the game to week 18, which the Steelers really hate. They reported that a forfeiture leads to the forfeiting team to get NO MONEY for that game!
Very unlikely solution.

(21,323 posts)but that can be a really big penalty for the Steelers. Remember this year only 2 teams get byes for the playoffs, 1 in each conference. Going to week 18 for the game could possibly take away that bye for the Steelers and could also mess up the schedule for the rest of the playoffs. What happens if the Ravens can't play their game Thursday? Do the Cowboys get a forfeit and the Steelers have to play week 18?

(35,438 posts)Just rent out an entire hotel complex in every city. Restrict it to players, coaches, other personnel, and immediate family members. Test everyone on a daily basis. Shuttle players back and forth to practice and home games. Private planes for road games.
Yes, this would have been expensive, but the NFL could have easily afforded it.

The hotels would have loved it as well as most of them are sitting empty right now.

(65,010 posts)Lamar Jackson is good for ratings.
Now, he's not playing.
I know guys get hurt a lot in the NFL. But, now extra box office guys are missing games.
The only saving grace may be that since people aren't much going out, the game ratings may be up.
Still seems bad business to put the players at even greater risk of missing games.

(35,438 posts)Let's say the Ravens have to forfeit and the Steelers go on to have a perfect season. It will be forever tainted and called into question.

Asterisk for sure. Even if just in reputation.

(4,587 posts)and hope he gets well soon, if he's sick.
I really like all three of our Heisman winners in the AFC North. All three seem like good dudes and are pretty good at their jobs. I'm just in shock about Burrows' injury. Awful thing to happen. Joe really looked like he would develop into a very good QB. I can only hope he makes a full recovery. Great fun watching these three youngsters competing against our "old man" in Pittsburgh.
