White House Security Director Suffers Amputations, Three-Month Hospital Stay For Covid-19

Source: Forbes

The director of the White House’s security office is reportedly recovering from Covid-19 after a difficult three-month hospitalization which involved the amputation of his right foot and lower leg, one of the most horrific cases to emerge out of a wave of infections that has swept through the White House.

Multiple outlets previously reported that Bailey was in critical condition, though it was only learned Monday that his battle against the virus claimed the big toe on his left foot, his entire right foot, and his lower leg, as told to Bloomberg by a friend, Dawn McCrobie.

McCrobie launched a GoFundMe page in mid-November to help raise money to pay off Bailey’s “staggering” medical bills.

Though it’s not known where Bailey picked up the virus, he is one of a number of people in and around the White House to test positive for Covid-19. Bloomberg reported that Bailey, who has been the White House’s chief security officer since June 2018, came down with Covid-19 over the Labor Day weekend—before the Sept. 26 nomination ceremony for Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, which is thought to have led to a wave of infections in the capitol. President Trump—and many of his allies—have routinely flouted guidelines to reduce the spread of the disease, with the president joking about and underplaying his own illness in October, for which he was hospitalized at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland. The president and other high-profile figures who have contracted the disease have benefited from access to treatment options unavailable to the general public when they do fall sick, including experimental drugs like Regeneron’s antibody cocktail and remdesivir, which at the time they were administered to Trump were not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

3. That's the worst case I've heard of. What would have caused the amputations?

6. Yes. It's one of the complications of Covid-19. Lots of people have had amputations due to Covid.

The worse case I remember reading about was of 41 year old Broadway star Nick Cordero, whose Covid clots required the amputation of his legs...and he still died. Just awful. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/nick-cordero-death-broadway-actor-age-41-coronavirus/

And other people go through HELL!

It appears most people get through it ok. But even then, you lose time from work/school and incur all kinds of medical bills. God help you if you're uninsured.

The journalist Connie Schultz wrote about a high school friend of hers who died of COVID-19. In that case, the medical team was considering multiple amputations — both legs, right arm, and the fingers from his left hand.

There's been a lot written about the very real possibility of amputation for COVID-19 patients. Here's one article:

4. As horrific as the number who have perished from the virus, I know that the extent of suffering

is even greater than that. How many people will end up with lifelong conditions? How many people will be forced into bankruptcy by medical bills? How many people are suffering from other conditions that aren't be treated due to shortages in space and personnel?
And how many people will be denied healthcare insurance because the virus will be considered a pre-existing condition?

Any illusion of American superiority should be completely shattered by the failure of our Country to do what was needed to prevent or reduce all of this damage.

1) A human president would have wished Bailey well, instead of a child sex trafficker and madame.

2) We might have learned of this sooner if we had a different administration whose collective head wasn't renting space in an orifice.

3) Ms. McCrobie may need to watch her back from Trump's domestic goons.
