Putin congratulates Biden on U.S. election win
Source: Axios
Why it matters: Putin was one of the few world leaders to refrain from congratulating Biden for his election win. But after the Electoral College affirmed his election victory, the Kremlin released a statement saying Putin looked forward to having "interaction and contact with" Biden, per Russia's TASS news agency.
"In a telegram, Putin wished the President-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States, which bear special responsibility for global security and stability, can, despite their differences, really contribute to solving many problems and challenges that the world is currently facing."
Of note: The Kremlin said last month that Putin would wait for an "official announcement" before commenting on the election or congratulating Biden.
President Trump has yet to concede despite the Electoral College vote and spent much of Monday night tweeting and retweeting baseless conspiracy theories on the election.

(7,633 posts)Down in the Dump Trump best not accept any invitations to visit Russia unless he'd like a lengthy tour of Siberia. Also, stay on the first floor of buildings and have the SS check all food and drink with a geiger counter.

(22,037 posts)Actually, I don't think PE Biden cares whether Putin congratulates him or not. Fuck Putin.
After he's inaugurated, President Biden should clamp down-- HARD-- on Russian and Putin. They've been screwing with our country for far too long.
Economic sanctions should be re-implemented and strengthened. Russia has been at war with the U.S. through cyber attacks and it's time for us to retaliate.
See, Russia is a very weak player on the world stage. Their economy is a shambles and their people are unmotivated. Putin needs to be put in his place and punished.

(10,013 posts)Putin and his oligarchs are perhaps the richest people in the world because they took the riches that Russia had during the breakup of the USSRone reason the economy is in bad shape. Theres a very high probability that they own Trump and have the proof of his illegal money laundering for their enterprises. The question is whether Trump owes secret debts to them and will be forced into bankruptcy once again to pay them, along with all his known debts to Deutsche Bank.
Trump may not be useless to Putin because he still has the ability to destabilize at least a portion of the US, but he is a lot less valuable because he can no longer keep the US intelligence community on the sidelines and prevent them from investigating Russia or retaliating for their hacking. But because the Republican Part has become the anti-democracy party, I suspect that much Russian money will continue to find its way into Republican coffers. What better way to destroy democracy than to have one of our two main political parties do it for them.
Is there any way to track Republicans getting Russian money, especially secretly? We need a change in the law requiring donors behind PACs to be disclosed.
