Mitt Romney says he knows losing hurts, but blasts Trump for claiming fraud

Source: Salt Lake Tribune

The Utah senator says he is concerned that some people believe the election was stolen.

By Lee Davidson

Utah Sen. Mitt Romney bashed President Donald Trump again on national TV on Monday evening for continuing to falsely claim the election was stolen from him — and drew on his own experience of losing a presidential election to drive home the point.

“The biggest concern that I have is that people here genuinely believe that somehow this election was stolen, and there’s not evidence of that. The president was saying it was stolen even before Election Day happened. He said if he loses, it would be fraud. Well, no one knows that,” Romney told Shepard Smith in a live CNBC interview.

“I thought I was going to win too when I ran for president in 2012. I didn’t. I didn’t go out and say ‘fraud.’ We have a process. We count the votes. That’s the way it is,” the Utah senator said.

Romney stressed again that Trump may be hurting democracy not only in America, but worldwide.

That counts for something, gotta say.

I think Mitt, like the Bushes, genuinely despises what Trump has done to norms of conduct in government.

when it didn't matter because the GOP had enough votes without him. If his had been the deciding vote, he would have voted the other way.

Romney will be the competent fascist, who will seem so much more acceptable than Trump, and will end the Republic if elected.

Also, he went on bended knee to Trump begging for a job. He voted with Trump when it mattered, and against him when it didn't (See Barrett vote).

realistically democrats have 2 years to go after these people on all levels and unless the DOJ is directed to go at white supremacist organizations and white militias, the problems in 2022 and 2024 will be HUGE

Real leaders accept this and learn/adapt and move on. Of course we are dealing with a man who is acting like a five year old and deluded himself into thinking he’s never lost ANYTHING (never mind his history is littered with judgements, payouts, bankruptcies, divorces, and cancelled TV shows).

And he's keeping himself in the news. So you have to wonder.

Not because he's more moderate, or even anti-Trump. Its because that, if Trump (or Jr.) does try again in 2024, but Mitt wins, it will divide that party into traditional Republicans vs. Trumplicans who may refuse to vote for Mitt.

In fact even if the worst happens, and Trump wins the next primaries against Mitt, it could still divide the party. But I'd prefer the former to happen.

tRump was saying BEFORE the election (and in 2016) that if he lost it would have to be fraud. So in other words, it doesn’t matter how clean, honest and verifiable an election you could run; in rRumps opinion, if he loses then it’s fraud.

That, in and of itself, shows a deranged mind that won’t accept reality. He had ZERO basis for making that claim (unless he already believed the fix was in...)

When it comes time to take a stand on principle, he can be counted on to follow his leaders' orders, lockstep like all the other obedient GOP fuckheads.

I don't want to hear another word out of Mittens until he does something worth paying attention to.
