Trump antagonizes Republicans with Georgia fundraising ploy
Source: MSN/Politico
President Donald Trump couldnt make it any clearer: He needs his supporters to fork over cash for the all-important Georgia Senate runoff elections.
We MUST defend Georgia from the Dems! he wrote in one recent text message. I need YOU to secure a WIN in Georgia, he said in another. Help us WIN both Senate races in Georgia & STOP Socialist Dems, he pleaded a few days later.
Theres just one hitch: Trumps new political machine is pocketing most of the dough and the campaigns of the Georgia senators competing in the Jan. 5 races arent getting a cent.
Trumps aggressive fundraising blitz appears to be devoted to helping the party defend Georgias two Senate seats and, with them, the Senate majority. But the fine print shows that most of the proceeds are going toward Trumps newly launched PAC, which he plans to use to fund his future political activities. Only a fraction is going to the Republican National Committee, which is investing $20 million into the runoffs.

Ultimately, Re[publicans Loeffler and Perdue will have an advantage over Democrats Ossoff and Warnock, because they have been flirting with the idea of supporting Trump's election challenges in the Senate. All they have to do is commit to challenging Biden's election in the Senate and it will turn out Republicans who will see the election as a last ditch effort to keep Trump in power.
On the other hand, Democrats cannot really cast doubt on Biden's election by suggesting that the election of Ossoff or Warnock is necessary for Biden to take office.
Thus, once again, Republicans will profit through corruption and lawlessness.

(14,764 posts)There isn't anything left to challenge. The electoral college votes have been registered and made official.
I don't get or agree with your commentary. There is nothing simple for perdue and loefler to do to gain the support of trumps voters. Trumps words will be all they will focus on. Rank and file gop are just disgusted.
The election is by no means a sure thing for any candidate. It will be a gotv victory by one side or the other. But trump is putting so much vomit into the punch on the gop side its hard to see anyone being happy and excited over there.

(17,390 posts)All Loeffler or Perdue have to do is to publicly commit to challenging the electoral college results as fraudulent and the Trumpers will turnout. On January 6, the Senate and the House will convene to count the electoral votes and officially declare the winner of the election. The joint session of Congress is required by law to ratify presidential results, but also allows "members to object to the returns from any individual state as they are announced."

However, even if this action is successful, it would still require the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives and the GOP-controlled Senate to both agree to disqualify the results, an outcome that is nearly impossible, the newspaper noted.
The Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) last week that sought to overturn the results of the election in four battleground states. The suit was supported by 17 other attorneys general in GOP-controlled states and 126 House Republicans.
