Nina Turner announces bid for House seat
Source: The Hill
The seat has opened up after President-elect Joe Biden tapped Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
I am a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt and friend, Turner said on a Zoom call with supporters.
My career in public service is varied, having served in local and state government and also in higher education. My views are informed by my own experience and that of people I love," she added. "What I want the people of Akron and Cleveland to know is that I know what it means to be counted out. I am running to ensure the people of Akron and Cleveland are always counted in.

(42,862 posts)Here's a link for the folks who often argue that she didn't actually say that. Or that it's taken out of context. (Lord!) https://www.huffpost.com/entry/nina-turner-joe-biden_n_5f200c04c5b638cfec49ecd5
First of all... the word "forced" is pretty damn revealing of her mental state. But those other three words ("as a Democrat'') are a clear and unmistakable admission that she doesn't identify as being a Democrat, and that this association with the Democratic party is merely a technicality (ie: a means to an end).
Whatever I can afford, I'll donate to her opponent.

Just asking cuz...
Is she running as a People'sParty?
That's the name of her new political party she's registered.

(10,154 posts)be a Democrat? How could any Democrat vote for a loud Jill Stein supporter in 2016? She certainly didn't support Joe Biden in this election.

(94,598 posts)Adding insult to injury, Biden nominated dairy industry lobbyist and former Obama Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, to head the department again. "Vilsack is a rerun of pro-corporate policies that continue to drive rural communities away from the Democratic Party," said The Intercept.
Just a guess, but Joe Biden and Sherrod Brown won't be doing any endorsement commercials for her.

As for The Intercept, isn't Glenn Greenwald an apologist for both Trump and Putin?

(22,264 posts)When an elected official leaves office down here we hold a special election. These are fun because there is one slate, not divided by party. No one ever wins the first round unless there are only 2 running. Top two go on to a runoff.

(67,782 posts)It's from her "People's Party", ( organize@peoplesparty.org )
Running as a Democrat is her second choice! She makes no bones about the fact that she's using the Democratic Party as an interim until she gets her "people's party" registered in Ohio.
And then she immediately gets into bashing Biden and his administration appointees:
It's official! Sen. Nina Turner is running for Congress. She's running for the seat vacated by Rep. Marcia Fudge, who Joe Biden has chosen as secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The People's Party isn't on the ballot in Ohio yet so she will have to run as a Democrat, but we can't think of anyone better to win that seat and bring a friend of the People's Party to Congress.
This week brings grim news from the nation's ocean scientists who reported that the Arctic is heating up at a rate double that of the global average and sea ice is melting rapidly.
We still have time to turn this around. Come onto our national call tonight at 8:30 pm Eastern time where climate scientist and MPP climate advisor Dr. Peter Kalmus will talk about the world's climate emergency and why the People's Party must succeed to help avert climate catastrophe in the next few years.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden continues to fill his administration with corporate lobbyists and centrists from the Obama administration. On tap is General Lloyd Austin for Defense Secretary, who helped spearhead the 2003 invasion of Iraq and sits on the board of Raytheon, a major supplier of bombs, including to the U.S-Saudi air war in Yemen which has killed at least 100,000 civilians.
He will join Neera Tanden, Bernie Sanders' nemesis, who looks to be a shoo-in for director of the Office of Management and Budget despite her light financial resume. Tanden is a venomous opponent of popular proposals like Medicare for all and a Green New Deal and supports cuts in Social Security nd Medicare. As president of the corporatist "Center for American Progress," she famously punched an employee who questioned Hillary Clinton's support for the Iraq War and accepted millions of dollars in donations from "friendly" foreign regimes such as the United Arab Emirates.
Last week we officially registered the People's Party in Maine, our first state party! Maine has a special rule that requires early registration. Please donate as we prepare to register the Peoples Party in all 50 states and offer a progressive populist alternative to the corporate-funded Democratic and Republican parties in 2022 and 2024.
