Former Houston police captain accused of violent attempt to prove election conspiracy was hired by GOP activist's group

Mark Aguirre is accused of running a man off the road and threatening him at gunpoint. The ex-cop was hired as a private investigator by a group whose CEO is GOP activist Steven Hotze.

HOUSTON — A former Houston police captain was arrested after allegedly running a man off the road and threatening him at gunpoint — what prosecutors say was part of an elaborate attempt to find evidence for a false conspiracy theory of widespread voter fraud in Harris County.

Mark Aguirre was working on behalf of a powerful Republican megadonor’s group to investigate unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud when, in October, he allegedly pulled a gun on a man described by the Harris County district attorney’s office as an “innocent and ordinary” air conditioner repairman.

Aguirre was arrested Tuesday, according to the Harris County district attorney’s office.

Prosecutors say Aguirre’s election fraud claims were baseless and that he was paid $266,400 by the group Liberty Center for God and Country, whose CEO is prominent Texas right-wing activist Steven Hotze.

Hotze was among a group of Republicans who unsuccessfully sued to have nearly 127,000 Harris County ballots tossed out this year. He was also among Republicans who tried — and failed — to stop Gov. Greg Abbott from extending early voting during the coronavirus pandemic, a suit for which Aguirre had provided an affidavit, stating that he was involved in an investigation into a “wide-ranging and fraudulent ballot harvesting scheme” in Harris County...........................................

What self-proclaimed "good people" and their adjacents get up to...
No Democrats do this in the name of their party or "doing good."
The Democratic Party refuses to harbor ideology that support political manipulations of ballots or civil rights.

Ideologies come from rationalized world views, some fact based, story based; some good faith, bad faith.

Harbor bad faith world views, 'project' that bad faith out there -- threat parades, "both sides do it" "some people are more equal than others" arguments, etc. -- then attack in some 'official' capacity.

Too many self-proclaimed "good people" are autocrats for the power of order under pretext of law, don't care to know their enemies from their friends, and guys like Steven Hotze are willing to pay them.

Chaos is good business for church, business and law enforcement rackets.

Those who want a solid and passive safety presence, those who want an equitable socio-economic society, those who want bigotry and classism to be removed from our lives, will first have to remove the profits that go with those things. Because there is MUCH profit to be had from them all, and since we all worship the green paper, I really don't see anything changing until we remove that worship. And, I just do not see this happening any time soon. So sad.

Although, as far as I am concerned, 'politics' has no use except to excuse selfish behavior. And, 'governance' exists because human beings will always be human beings whenever they get together. But, I am a failed, cynical person and not who you should turn to for 'hope'. Maybe someone can fix these things, but it took over a hundred years to get us here, and to think it will all be okay any time soon is just delusion.

Not in the sense of organized religion, but of people experiencing themselves as part of something greater than their individual selves. We're all in this together.

except that the powers that be make far more money from our divisiveness. They can control us way better if we are at each others throats and completely dependent on their vision of society. They have spent many decades tweaking our laws and society so that their way is the only way to survive. As stated before, this has been a long time developing and it will be a long time before anything changes significantly.

Site is for a blogger who watches Houston police and politics. A long read, as the lawsuits transpired over several years.

I'll confess I street raced in the 1980s and early 1990s, and there are certain types of cars you see at these, mostly clandestine events. At a Kmart and Sonic, I can imagine they were arresting people driving minivans and sedans, cars you almost never see at a street race. What he orchestrated in 2002 and this year were both authoritarian abuses of power. He deserved to be fired in 2002, and he deserved to be arrested this year.

So glad to see that this article doesn't even mention that Hotze is an MD. Jill Biden is a lot more worthy of her "Dr." than this clueless asshole.
