Legendary French fashion designer Pierre Cardin has died at the age of 98.
Cardin was credited with helping revolutionise fashion with his futuristic designs in the 1960s and 70s.
He was also a pioneer in business, licensing his name to be used on a range of products such as sunglasses.
He died in hospital in Neuilly, near Paris, his family told the AFP news agency.

Pierre Cardin, Designer to the Famous and Merchant to the Masses, Dies at 98
By Ruth La Ferla
Dec. 29, 2020, 6:26 a.m. ET
Pierre Cardin, the visionary designer and licensing pioneer who invented the business of fashion as it is conducted today, has died. He was 98.
His death was confirmed on Tuesday by the French Academy of Fine Arts. He died at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, just outside Paris, his family said, according to Agence France-Presse.
"Fashion is not enough," Mr. Cardin once told Eugenia Sheppard, the American newspaper columnist and fashion critic. "I don't want to be just a designer."
He never was just that. He clothed the famous -- artists, political luminaries, tastemakers and members of the haute bourgeoisie -- but he was also a merchant to the masses with an international brand, his name affixed to an outpouring of products, none too exalted or too humble to escape his avid eye.

(66,462 posts)1. My very first honest-to-God necktie was a Pierre Cardin.
I graduated from clip-ons to the tie-able kind at age twelve. Big step for a budding clothes horse.
Thank you for your wonderful designs, sir.
