Sasse says he'd consider impeaching Trump

Source: The Hill

BY IAN SWANSON - 01/08/21 08:51 AM EST

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) on said Friday he'd consider articles of impeachment from the House, saying he believes President Trump disregarded his oath of office.

"If they come together and have a process, I will definitely consider whatever articles they might move, because as I told you I believe the president has disregarded his oath of office," Sasse said in an interview on "CBS This Morning."

"He swore an oath to the American people to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. He acted against that," Sasse said. "What he did was wicked."

Sasse in the interview hedged a bit, suggesting it might not be in the best interests of America to impeach Trump even if there had been impeachable conduct given he is only in office for another 12 days.

Impeach Trump, and expel insurrectionist lawmakers under the 14th Amendment. Any refusal to punish insurrection just insures there will be a sequel.

He was pissed. I doubt it could get 67 votes. But it might.

If impeached he is ineligible to ever hold future office, removing him from the board. Most republicans would love that.

Trump still has lots of followers, but by 22? As the event sinks into our collective conscience, it will take on an ominous place in our history.

As a Nebraskan, we know he never does the right thing when it comes down to the wire. He's straddling both sides here, just to look like he's bi-partisan. It's all he ever does. He talks, but doesn't follow through...he's worthless in a fight.

Convicting Trump mean he'll no longer be able to run for office. That itself will remove a big threat to the GOP's existence.
