CNN Poll: Obama tied with Romney & Paul in November showdowns

Washington (CNN) – Mitt Romney is all tied up with President Barack Obama in a likely general election matchup, with the president showing signs of weakness on the economy and Romney seen as out of touch with ordinary Americans, according to a new national survey.

And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Monday also indicates that Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is also even with Obama in another possible showdown this November. The survey also suggests the Republican advantage on voter enthusiasm is eroding, which could be crucial in a close contest.

According to the survey, if the November election were held today and Romney were the Republican presidential nominee, 48% say they'd vote for the former Massachusetts governor, with 47% supporting the president. Romney's one point margin is well within the poll's sampling error.

It has less to do with Americans being idiots, than craven cowards in allowing our elections to be stolen. First in Florida by the Supreme Court and then in Ohio by a runaway uncle Tom Secretary of State.

What we should get out of these poll results is that the MSM corporate media is preparing us for another stolen election. When it is close, the tie goes to the Rethuglican criminals.

Obama had better swing into full blown populist mode if he wants to overcome the theft factor.

It doesn't do the country any good for Nader to go around proclaiming he's got all the answers (and indeed that both major parties are the same) and yet pursue a strategy that helps the right wing get in.

If he had worked on the local and state level to bring about change instead of working to hurt Gore, the outcome would have been different. It is so sadly ironic that a man who worked to limit corporate power helped elect a man who appointed SCOTUS judges who ruled that corporations are people.

I have very little optimism for the near future, and strongly suspect that the fights for civil rights, woman's rights, and everything else that was fought for in the last 50 years, will have to be redone

In addition, whoever wins the south wins the country. That was nixon's "southern" strategy, and as long as the electoral college exists, it will be the direction of the country

President Barack Obama is trailing his top GOP rival Mitt Romney in the swing state of Florida 10 months out from the general election.

A new Quinnipiac survey shows the president trailing Romney 46 percent to 43 percent among registered voters. Obama fared better against Rick Santorum, besting the former Pennsylvania senator 45 percent to 43 percent in the Sunshine State.

If Romney or Paul starts to beat Obama on a regular basis, THEN flip out.

But that is not happening.

To see this, look at the GRAPH at RealClear at the link above.

Then look at the historical polls, occasionally Romney beats Obama ... but its rare and the margin is usually tiny.

This same pattern occurred in 2008. McCain occasionally won a single poll, but usually by a small amount. And Obama was consistently winning by around 6%, particularly during the summer prior to the election.

Romney is struggling to get his head above water against Obama, and that's why you need to look at all the polls. The fact that Romney occasionally breaks the surface and gets to breathe for a second, is nothing to get excited about.

Obama will wipe the floor with that lying Romney. And Perry would be even worse. I don't know who is more laughable.
Romney is a congenital lier who will say anything he thinks will get him elected. And Perry is several bricks shy of a full load. It's a good thing the TX legislator is only part time. Otherwise those poor people would be subject to Perry far too often. Hopefully they'll wake up in the next election and vote in someone with an IQ.

There will be 7/24 adds telling what a lier Romney is and they will be accurate.

Who wants such a dishonest person for president?

Unlike Regan both Bushes and Clinton Obama hasn't had a scandal during his term. Maybe that's because he's an honest, decent person. I know I'm voting for him again in November.

I can't believe anyone would vote for the assclowns in the GOP field. You'd have to be so embarassed.

There has been non-stop attack ads against Obama by all of these candidates. He hasn't ran any negative attack ads back at any of them and this is the best they can do. I live in FL and Mittens has an ad out that is attacking Newt, the ad is basically linking him to Obama and Pelosi. I see this ad every day, which is why he has a slight lead in FL. I think Obama should start running some ads in swing states. Not ads attacking Mittens yet, but ads showcasing all his accomplishments and why voters should stick with him. He should save all the ammunition and negative attack ads against Mittens until he's announced the nominee.

He's been getting piled on by the entire GOP field for a while and has not started campaigning yet. The good thing is Obama does have a pretty decent war chest which will be a must, considering all the Super PACs out there.

I think we'll see the numbers fluctuate quite a bit. If Romney starts opening a huge lead and keeps it, then there will be some cause for concern. We all know that Romney isn't particular well liked by just about anyone so I can't see him actually exciting people to be enthusiastic about his campaign. The VP pick could make some difference. For now a tie isn't horrible considering the unemployment rate and the way things have been going for many out there. While there may be some signs of a recovery, it's very rocky and uncertain.

We'll also see state polls start cropping up. I think VA and NC are especially worth noticing, as well as CO, NM, and NV. He will definitely need NM and CO - and one big swing state. NV might be tougher (and I believe there is a big Mormon population out there as well).

Of course, the traditional swing states will be important too (OH, PA, FL). The electoral count will almost certainly be much closer this time. I definitely don't see him carrying IN this time, for example.
