7 rural counties in Oregon that voted for Trump have voted to secede from the blue state and join Id

Source: Business Insider

kvlamis@insider.com (Kelsey Vlamis) 1 hr ago

Five rural counties in Oregon voted on Tuesday in favor of leaving Oregon and becoming part of Idaho, joining two other counties that already voted in favor of the idea last year.

The ballot measures called on officials in each county to start considering the move, and are the first step of the "Greater Idaho" movement, which aims to expand the state of Idaho to include rural Oregon and part of California.

Activists say Oregon's government does not represent the conservative values of the much of the state, and that none of the Democrats in the state legislature represent a rural area.

"This is why Oregon passes laws that kill industries in eastern, central, and southern Oregon. They don't protect us from rioters, forest arsonists, or school curricula that teach kids to hate Americans and Americanism. And they pass laws that violate our conscience. We can't let our money support their system anymore. We are outnumbered, we don't have leverage, and things will continue to get worse," the website reads.

and animosity between Americans are one of the main problems we have, and lack of education and critical thinking skills are a major problem as well.

I never thought that it would be so easy to lead so many people around by the nose, but I know now that it is. And the people listening to that filth enjoy the hell out of it and want more and more extreme content.

It's so frustrating to me because there seems to be very little we can do about it with so many on the far right who aren't willing to help in any way.

Would they then just have Idaho arsonists and forest fires? And protection from rioters?

I know exactly what they mean, but just because it's a new county in Idaho doesn't mean it'll be whiter, it'll just make Idaho more diverse. Maybe they should check to see if that what the Spud State wants. You know how the neighborhood goes once they move in.

What a bunch of intolerant assholes. Sell their homes and move their racists asses to another state.

After they do this, and Idaho accepts the idea, and the Fed goes along with it, they become part of Idaho. Then, as always happens in our history, Oregon turns red and Idaho turns blue. Then what, loser rethugs? You keep changing states so that you will always be with your 'own kind'? How about you STFU (Shut The Fuck Up), and just accept that your Neanderthal ideals are not popular. If they were, the conservatives that you say are 'the majority of the state' would control the state. Face it, your state is trying to progress, not regress. Regressing is the main goal of the rethugs, and we need to keep an eye on any of them that push that desire on their state. I like riding in a horse drawn carriage as much as anyone, but I don't want to be stuck with just that option while limos rush past me. Fuck that.

But, as history shows us, no state 'stays' blue or red. And, when they decide they do not like Idaho? What then? Are we to allow counties and cities to randomly decide to redefine state boundaries just because a few idiots are disgruntled? What I am trying to say is that this is just more toddler whining from those who used to be in a position to always get what they want and refuse to change one thing due to Dunning Kruger Effect. These are the same people who felt we Democrats should STFU and just do what they wanted (or die). Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they refuse to even consider that option. The only one they offered us. Which is why I said fuck them and they can just survive as we did. (Oh wait, I am not sure they will survive much without being in 'charge'. Oh, be still my heart!)

I love these rural conservatives. They hate anything progressive but run to the nearest big city to the best medical center they can find if they or their kids needs specialty medical care. They take Social Security which Repugs try to destroy. They use workers compensation if injured which Dems always save. They use Obamacare when needed. Their counties take back more money than they contribute to support things that protect them like the military.

To visit Portland just came back from there. Didn't feel safe on the Trimet like she did before. Said she found out they took fund allocated for security on it to somewhere else. I guess a homeless guy screamed at her and scared her. She is 71 so not young.

All the places downtown and boarded up really got to her. She is a moderate dem. And said she won't do another alone trip.

Makes me think Portland might take a big hit tourist wise from all the stuff going on there. Add that to covid can't be good.

I live in southern Oregon and go to Portland at least few times a year normally but haven't gone since covid.

How do you see the city doing?
