He brought a sawed-off rifle to the Capitol on Jan. 6. Then he plotted to bomb Amazon data centers.

For weeks this spring, 28-year-old Seth Aaron Pendley had plotted an attack on Amazon data centers in Virginia. He’d already taken a sawed-off rifle to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Now, he hoped to cripple much of the Internet and take down government networks.

Last April, he finally arranged a meeting with a man promising to provide the C4 explosive devices. When they met in Fort Worth, Tex., the man showed Pendley how to arm and detonate the powerful bombs.

But just as Pendley placed the devices into his Pontiac, federal agents swarmed in and arrested him. The bomb seller was actually an FBI plant who had helped unravel a plan Pendley believed could “kill off about 70 percent of the internet.”

On Wednesday, Pendley pleaded guilty to planning to bomb Amazon facilities in an attempt to undermine the U.S. government and to spark a rebellion against the “oligarchy” he believed to be running the country.

Less accuracy?

Just cutting the barrel of shotguns is what got Ruby Ridge and the Branch Davidians visits from the Feds. We know how those turned out.

It becomes more a weapon of mass destruction than any used for hunting or otherwise.

to it. His weapon was most likely an AR pistol with a brace such as this Ruger:

(I have one myself, they're quite popular)

By way of comparison, here's a standard Ruger AR-15:

The pistol is a bit more concealable, although it's still hard to imagine carrying it without anyone noticing.

literature.

Chopping off the barrel of a shotgun from 24" to 12" merely expands the scattering of the shot to the same degree as if one fired from one foot further away. To describe such a weapon as a "weapon of mass destruction" is, I'm afraid, quite hyperbolic. Such a weapon is, if anything, less effective, since the capacity of the magazine underneath the barrel would be reduced. The only real advantage would be that it would be somewhat concealable.

Was a favourite of Aussie gangsters and crims for a long time because of our less-than-permissive firearm laws.

Easy to pose as a farmer with legit reasons. Chop off the barrell and stock to make it short enough to conceal under a coat.

For every traitor domestic terrorist that is caught before being able to do harm, there are dozens more scheming to do the same. Some of them have some powerful backers and plotters for a larger, coordinated attack on us.

I remember the Clinton years, when many would be foreign-inspired terrorist bomb plots were discovered and stopped. Each time I thought, "Wow. We dodged a big one. How long before we miss one?"

Then 9/11 gave me the answer.
