As Brazil tops 500,000 deaths, protests against president

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Anti-government protesters took to the streets in more than a score of cities across Brazil on Saturday as the nation’s confirmed death toll from COVID-19 soared past half a million — a tragedy many critics blame on President Jair Bolsonaro’s attempt to minimize the disease.

Thousands gathered in downtown Rio de Janeiro waving flags with slogans such as “Get out Bolsonaro. Government of hunger and unemployment.”

“Brazil is experiencing a great setback. The country was an exemplary country for vaccination in the world. We have widely recognized institutions, but today we are in a sad situation ”, said Isabela Gouljor, a 20-year-old student who joined the protest in Rio.

Other marchers hoisted posters reading: “500 thousand deaths. It’s his fault,” alluding to Bolsonaro.

Demonstrators hold signs that read in Portuguese; "Impeachment now! Bolsonaro in prison" during a protest against Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, on Paulista Avenue in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Saturday, June 19, 2021. 2. bolsanaro credited his election success to "the brazillian limbaugh", a fascist talk radio

host who apparently broadcasts from virginia. like in the US it's possible putin's been using guys like that in brazil too, the way he did limbaugh and sons here, to deny COVID, politicize masks etc.

limbaugh boasted his 'model' was being used in india years ago, and i wonder if there are other countries where they're using it, such as in mexico and other parts of latin america, etc, and europe, to make COVID worse, rile up nationalism etc.

limbaugh explained that democrats would use COVID to 'force socialist/communist big govt solutions'. other rationalizations for making it worse was that fear and chaos is good for fascism, and trump would have liked worst case scenarios that would have allowed him to delay elections, force emergency powers, halt immigration, etc. in 2014 they used ebola as an october surprise and the GOP won 9 senate seats, so that would have been a lesson learned re scaring the public with disease

Who encouraged the slaughter of almost a million people in 4 months. There were militias involved, but the radio station fomented the hate.

by our media analysts

putin would have hated Voice of America in the old soviet days so it must be sweet revenge to be able to use it so successfully here since at least 2008, using limbaugh and manafort to force palin on mccain, and 2009 derailing obama at the copenhagen climate convention with 'climategate' from a russian hack, wikileaks, etc

so the death toll there is even more horrific on a per capita basis.

Balsonaro is another malignant narcissist who feels a personal affront every time an expert tries to inform him about anything.

I hope he can be deposed and his rotten party obliterated without large scale violence. Brazil deserves so much better.
