Trump Organization attorneys given Monday deadline to persuade prosecutors not to file charges against it
Shayna Jacobs, Josh Dawsey, David Fahrenthold 2 hrs ago
Prosecutors in New York have given former president Donald Trumps attorneys a deadline of Monday afternoon to make any final arguments as to why the Trump Organization should not face criminal charges over its financial dealings, according to two people familiar with the matter.
That deadline is a strong signal that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. (D) and New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) now working together, after each has spent more than two years investigating Trumps business are considering criminal charges against the company as an entity.
Earlier this year, Vance convened a grand jury in Manhattan to consider indictments in the investigation. No entity or individual has been charged in the investigations thus far, and it remains possible that no charges will be filed.
Prosecutors have shown interest in whether Trumps company used misleading valuations of its properties to deceive lenders and taxing authorities, and in whether taxes were paid on fringe benefits for company executives, according to court documents and people familiar with the investigations.

(35,454 posts)either you have the evidence against or you don't and if you do then what's this about? Vance caving again?

(4,111 posts)As a NYer I don't trust Vance as far as I can throw him. He's shown himself to be in the pocket of the rich and powerful when it comes to indictments (see Trump, Weinstein, etc.)

(35,454 posts)THey wouldn't believe the black hotel maid and let him off only to have INterpol arrest him for running a worldwide prostitution ring. And as you know Vance has let the Fat Nixon's family off time and again.

(18,641 posts)And is fine spending the rest of his life in prison while Trump, once again, goes scott free.
There seems to be no way to ever make Trump suffer consequences for his crimes.
It's the one thing he is genius at, to commit crimes and make everyone else pay the price while he remains free to commit more crimes.
He's better at it than Al Capone.

(4,274 posts)you may be close to the strategy here. Not so much the Orange Ruski pardoning him because these are state charges but rather holding out for a Republican governor to pardon him after he drags everything through the courts as long as possible.

(4,274 posts)tells us that it has happened and not all that long ago. A Hail Mary is really all that Weaselnuts has left. He faces the authorities, tries to run, hopes for the Hail Mary or likely faces an invitation to view the Manhattan skyline from a balcony about 20 floors up with a man with a name something like Ivan Pushinov. The strategy by most lawyers is to hold out for the best deal for your client by letting people walk right up to the courthouse steps before asking what the final offer is.

(9,300 posts)for trump? If he does not implicate the Russians (too much) I doubt he would be Epsteined.
to say whether Allen has that kind of time left since he is already 73. I don't think it's a matter implicating the Russians in crimes but rather contributing to the downfall of the financial capacity of the business to continue operating and being able to launder the money for the Russians. Eventually the Russian ones who have loaned all of this money over the last many years would also like to be repaid.

(101,360 posts)Unfortunately, the Organization can't be sent to prison. At best it can be liquidated.
