(13,923 posts)And I suspect they know somewhere deep down that if we reduced the number of guns in the country enough to make it so gun violence was no longer a useful threat come election time, the perception that we need to give police military surplus to play with and massive budgets would be a much much harder sell.

(32,746 posts)More military weapons for cops. More military weapons for the citizens. More of these situations lead to more military weapons for citizens, more for citizens and all of a sudden the gun dealers are all getting rich and richer.
Follow the god damn fricken money.
Now it makes sense.

(13,923 posts)They are small potatoes in all reality. Most are just people trying to get by, a portion are corrupt and unlikable, some are truly a menace to their local society.. but minor really, except for the handful of people directly harmed by them..
Follow the money.
The gun industry is approx 28b
The law enforcement industry is 100b.
Add in the incarceration industry for another 80b.
And then defense industry because the military needs new fancy gear to replace what it gives to police departments, for at least another 20B.
Follow the money.

(4,122 posts)was not killed. An 11-hour stand-off but there was enough desire to save a life, not to storm the house is, to me, a good sign of great law enforcement.
