SAITAMA, Japan (AP) The final buzzer sounded and France barely celebrated.
To them, beating the United States again wasnt really a surprise. And that might be the biggest indicator yet that the Americans even after three consecutive Olympic gold medals are no longer feared by other top international teams.
A 25-game Olympic winning streak for the U.S. is over, ending Sunday when France closed the game on a 16-2 run to beat the Americans 83-76 in the Tokyo Games. Evan Fourniers 3-pointer off a broken play with just under a minute left put France ahead for good, as the Americans simply fell apart in the final minutes.
They are better individually, Fournier said of the Americans, but they can be beaten as a team.

(9,749 posts)Wokeism caused the women's soccer team to lose; per Trump.
He is the guy that lost the election despite illegal efforts to reverse the actual results.
He hides in the bunker when Girl Scouts ring the doorbell to sell cookies.

(24,329 posts)I thought after their less-than-stellar performances in the most recent lead ups, they'd play strong, disciplined basketball and mop the floor.
They have time to turn it around. Hope they do

(15,286 posts)It used to be that countries other than the US fielded teams with amateurs and some European leagues players. Now many countries have not only NBA players, but above-average to star NBA players on their rosters.
It's the same in hockey, another international sport, where Canada dominated for years.

(4,310 posts)... we sent the winner of the college championship to rep our country ?
Maybe that would put us back in the running.

(10,039 posts)Team USA will be fine. They had to work a couple of guys, who just got off a plane, into the rotation.

(14,750 posts)Then bar any actual professionals again internationally - including national camp teams. Lets get the games back to where they should be; amateur and idealistic.
And let the woman wear comfortable clothes.
