U.S. COVID-19 cases hit six-month high, Florida grapples with surge

Source: Reuters

The United States hit a six-month high for new COVID cases with over 100,000 infections reported on Wednesday, according to a Reuters tally, as the Delta variant ravages areas where people did not get vaccinated.

The country is reporting over 94,819 cases on a seven-day average, a five-fold increase in less than a month, Reuters data through Wednesday showed. The seven-day average provides the most accurate picture of how fast cases are rising since some states only report infections once a week or only on weekdays. (Graphic on U.S. cases and deaths)

Seven U.S. states with the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates - Florida, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi - account for half of the country's new cases and hospitalizations in the last week, White House COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients told reporters on Thursday. read more

In the coming weeks, cases could double to 200,000 per day due to the highly contagious Delta variant, said top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci on Wednesday.

so somebody has been doing something right, probably because they got hit about the hardest during the winter spike. Likely a lot of the cases there are mild ones among the vaccinated plus some among the happy vacationers (Miami in summer, ugh, my Dad did that one).

The cases per 100,000 are well under 20 there, so you're not in terrible shape. It's not so for one of the counties in the panhandle, they're 99 case and climbing, with a 30+% vaccination rate. Funny how that works out, isn't it?

Follow the numbers, graphs, and compairsons with other states here: https://covidactnow.org/?s=21421067 It's an easy to use site and the numbers are updated frequently.

Wherever they love Dumdum, there are a lot of people who think vaccination is the mark of Satan (although how it's a "mark" confuses me, the lump goes away in a week) and cases are climbing into the danger level.

but work, alcohol, and religion. These are areas where preachers in more sensible times would be begging the state to send a vax team to their churches on Sunday, one thing that was done when the Salk polio vaccine came out.

So many of them are either hung up on Dumdum, themselves, or afraid of his fan club that it's just not going to happen, not until they've buried a lot more kids.

I find it funny that the farmers vaccinate all their animals, give them antibiotics without reason, use round-up by the gallons, spray insecticides, herbicides and fungicides using crop dusters, but when it comes to vaccines they are worried what is going into their bodies .

Best plan is to get the va, breakthrough cases are both uncommon and overwhelmingly mild. It's not 100%, nothing is, but the cases of vaccinated people sick enough to need a little oxygen is a tiny percent of the total and the number of vaccinated people who have died is in the tenths of a percent.

So if you haven't already done so, find out who has the vaccine and get stuck. No, it won't make your day, but it might just save your life.

Our courts, that used to be a shining star for privacy and safety 35 years ago, have been pushed to the extreme right, abandoned us in their efforts to promote the RW oligarchy and want us to die for their profits. It's more than likely they will continue to back death and profits for the rich over the lives of the workers.

They are ducking, bobbing, weaving, lying, obfuscating, doing everything except telling the truth or doing one freaking thing about it. They are killing us on purpose to make Biden/Dems look bad and to steal all our SS $$. They see this as a rare opportunity to advance the reich wing and are stepping out to do this. Death Sentence doesn't give a fuck that we are dying in droves, he thinks it's not his folks, the billionaires, so he doesn't care, not one little bit. Media needs to get on his back and rip away, day after day to make an impact.

how is your 'Herd Immunity' experiment going?

Letting people get sick and die certainly sorts the weak from the strong. Seems a good way to strengthen the human life stock herd, really.

Just one question: When there is only a small percentage of humans left in your state, how do you think your local economy will fare?
I only ask because keeping the economy healthy is the aim of the game here, right?

Trade human lives for economic survival? Seems a good plan! /insert un-needed sarcasm emoji here/

Or maybe the answer is a lot simpler. You all down there are just plain stoopid!

PCR "case counts" do not matter. We are testing people six ways till sunday (regardless of their being symptomatic). The cycle counts on the tests are completely random, and even if the cycle counts were consistent they do not translate to meaningful medical decision making.

Focus on the actual hospitalization situation. Report the numbers for regular capacity _and_ emergency capacity so we know where hospitals have leeway vs. being at their actual limit.

Anyone who is tired of data should simply stop reading it, instead of wishing it not be reported

This sounds like the type of anti-science, anti-news misinformation currently being spread on social media and echoes the anti-testing disinformation strategies that acolytes of TFG were engaged in last year. What is it doing here?
