Texas COVID-19 wave is climbing more steeply than past waves
Source: AP
In a video conference, Chris Van Deusen, the Texas Department of State Health Services spokesman, said the rolling seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases has soared by 92% from last week, while hospitalizations rose by 49% and fatalities grew by 15%.
*snip*
She added that the rise in new cases is similar to what weve seen in previous waves and might even be steeper. And that really shows how contagious the delta variant is. Its spreading much more rapidly among unvaccinated people than the viruses that we saw last year.
In the face of such grim statistics, Van Deusen said the rolling seven-day average of vaccinations has also climbed about 75% in the past month, from about 44,000 a day on July 4 to about 75,000 per day as of Tuesday.
It really seems that people are getting the message that this is a serious situation. If they have been putting off getting vaccinated, nows the time to stop. Dont put it off any longer, he said.

(22,201 posts)to get their shots as the virus is ravishing huge chunks of America, especially those chunks who blindly listened to the former moron-in-chief rump (who did nothing other than sneak around, get vaccinated and then hid that fact from the public so he wouldn't be accused of mocking the Covid virus and then being a hypocrite and getting the vacccine).
Murderer.

(22,201 posts)it too, but numbers are somewhat muddled, I see anywhere from under a thousand cases to roughly 250,000 cases (a heavily disputed non-peer reviewed estimate) as a result of the rally.
-Logically in my mind, I expect that YES, definitely there is COVID being spread at the rally;
-YES, as a result of this rally, there will be further spread of the delta version of the COVID virus, across the USA;
-YES, and the crowd that attends this rally is the kind of crowd that I suspect IMHO doesn't really go into getting vaccinated, or doing
other preventive measures to reduce or slow the spread of Covid.
When will the rest of us stand up finally and demand that some Americans do their part too, to help stamp out this horrible desease? I kind of think that I'm seeing a kind of backlash happening in quite a few places, that people are ignoring ignorant edicts against masks (in FL, school systems are ignoring the governor, in MO, cities are ignoring the governor on masking up (at least in STLMO), etc.).
When these scumbags dictate that their every action is mandated or driven by politics solely, we have a serious problem. Politics is for the most part, supposed to be left at the door when serious governance is required during perilous times and if people don't think we're in a perilous time now, then we got even more a serious problem at hand with these ignorant death heads.

It's sad as hell. Those areas are mostly rural, so having corporations insist on vaxxing employees isn't going to help much. I imagine we'll go from medium to high to very high risk within the next week.
Shit.

(57,479 posts)... so far in this go-around. NONE of them were vaxxed and the one that exposed me had led me to believe he had gotten the J&J jab.
My wife and I are pretty angry over this. We just can not let up until it's over, not the tiniest little bit. We are surrounded by people we thought were smart enough to understand, who in the end don't give fuck one about anybody else.
There are people I don't intend to ever socialize with again. Educated, well off, ex-military, ex-intelligence and totally oblivious to anyone else. There's no way to outsmart the disease, we have to fight it and the fight the arrogance of ignorance.

(57,479 posts)... I appreciate your concern, something our "friends" in Marble Falls seem to lack.
And to top it off: the downtown is closed off, so the city can rent parking spaces to the tourists that are coming in for the speedboat races!!!!! I cannot tell you how crazy that all is. Partially because I know you already know how crazy that sounds.
