A church in Jacksonville, Florida, held a free vaccination clinic on Sunday after six of its members died of COVID-19.
Impact Churchs Pastor George Davis told Jacksonville-based WJXT in an interview on Friday that the churchgoers were all unvaccinated.
In the last 10 days, we have had six members of our church who passed away from COVID. Four of them were under the age of 35. All of them were healthy, and the only thing they had in common was they were not vaccinated, Davis said.
He estimated that between 15 and 20 church members were in the hospital and at least 10 more were battling the virus at home.

(49,036 posts)Eight months from vaccine, six months from widespread availability, they "resolve" to hold a vaccine clinic.
His church has $5,000,000 to spend to renovate a shopping mall as a church, but couldn't or wouldn't guide his flock to the four vaccines that doG sent him.

Praying the 'rona away didn't work and won't work. He styles himself as "Bishop".
During church services, Davis said the church requires masks, the auditorium is thoroughly cleaned in between services, it practices social distancing and offers hand sanitizer.
He may not be quite the idiot that some "pastors" are.

(3,402 posts)who is a "Pastor". They are in a very little box of a business, but he goes out on an RV preaching. His wife drives a Mercedes Benz, he also drives one of those, brand new. My mechanic has become friendly with him and knows about the "business of god" this guy is doing.
The guy is just a regular guy not really interested in helping anyone but himself and his bottom line, but hey, you get the tax exempt permit to "run a church" and off you go.

(23,155 posts)I go through this neighborhood often, it's on my way to the vet. These are not million dollar properties, no way, maybe worth $300,000 - $400,000. Now, I have only driven past, unless there's lots of hidden property on the side and back, no freaking way in the world is this even worth 1 million, much less more than that. The building does stand out and is fairly new, but again, no way is it worth multiple millions. It's not grand at all and neither are the grounds.

Nevertheless, they should have been holding virtual services.

Davis said Friday hes certain after speaking with the families of those members they contracted it from somewhere outside of the church.
Even though the church follows CDC guidance, Davis is pushing to get more people vaccinated.
The church held a vaccine event in March where he says 800 people were vaccinated.
With the surge in the greater Jacksonville community, and in his church, theyre now holding another event on Sunday. The event is open to the public.

(989 posts)And killed six of its members did the pastor decide to hold a vaccination clinic.
Prior to this wave of deaths and infections, they probably believed that God would keep them safe from harm if they spent enough time praying. Unfortunately, this come-to-Jesus moment came too late for those young people who should have had many decades left to live.

Please Dont be harsh on them.
This topic made me wonder if black churches are involved in getting their congregations vaccinated, as they have been in the voting rights movement. Havent taken time to read articles, but plenty come up in a quick search.
And it makes sense to get as many churches involved as possible, especially in poorer areas. Ive seen the term food deserts used in my town, which is a reference to areas lacking sufficient access to regular grocery stores. And if an area is a food desert, its probably lacking in pharmacies and other medical services as well. With this pandemic, we need as many organizations that can help their members and neighbors to be vaccinated as possible. I dont know how anyone is going to persuade the leaders of the churches that have fallen to trumpism or other conspiracy theories, but I hope people are at least trying
