An envelope addressed to Pope Francis and containing three bullets has been intercepted near Milan, Italian police have confirmed.
The envelope featured French postage and was addressed to "The Pope, Vatican City, Piazza S. Pietro in Rome," Italy's carabinierione of the country's two main police forcestold Newsweek.
An investigation is underway.
Officers seized the mail at a sorting center in Peschiera Borromeo, located on the outskirts of Milan, after its presence was reported by the manager.

(102,376 posts)Catholics really need to rally behind him--the far extreme RW wings of Catholicism truly want to remove him--any way possible and I'm not so sure that doesn't include the Opus Dei and other extreme conservative members and Bishops in this country. I've long thought his life to be in danger.

(14,063 posts)The Church is still far behind on womens and lgbt rights but this pope has taken steps in the right direction. Most of the bishops in the US loathe him due to his progressiveness and care for the poor.

(2,499 posts)Not unlike the U.S. Conference, Opus Dei has been busy trying to turn Latin Americans against Pope Francis.
Not directly (usually) - but through their many media and political surrogates.
As this has proven to be a lot less effective than they thought, I wouldn't put it past them to be mulling the next option.
They've done it before.

Of course though, they're downright RINO-style moderates - compared to most of today's GOP.

he has also done good things!
Guess I'll just have to send some white light "woo" to him specifically at this point. (I have a specific, and general list I send out almost every night 🙂👍 )
