Epstein accuser sues Prince Andrew, citing sex assault at 17
Source: AP
NEW YORK (AP) One of Jeffrey Epsteins longtime accusers sued Prince Andrew on Monday, saying he sexually assaulted her when she was 17.
Lawyers for Virginia Giuffre filed the lawsuit in Manhattan federal court.
In a statement, Giuffre said the lawsuit was brought under the Child Victims Act to allege she was trafficked to him and sexually abused by him.
I am holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me," she said. The powerful and rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions. I hope that other victims will see that it is possible not to live in silence and fear, but to reclaim ones life by speaking out and demanding justice.

(28,885 posts)the royal family would surprise me any more.
So many of the royals were so decadent or into
pedophilia (check out Lord Louis Mountbatten).
I also got a good education on the decadence
of Lord Snowden and Princess Margaret.
That was something.
Prince Philip was no saint either.

(33,643 posts)Age of Consent in Great Britain is 16.
Age of Consent in 38 of 50 states is 17 (or 16).
Also this happened quite awhile ago now.
Unless she has evidence the sex occurred somewhere where 17 is below the age of consent, or she has evidence he forced her ... I suspect it's going to be a very difficult case to make against someone as powerful and rich as Prince Andrew.
Not saying it's right, again, but I don't know how good her chances are.

I'll be rooting for Justice, but if you asked me which side I'd bet on?
Sadly it would be on 'the rich and powerful'

(33,643 posts)his lawyers will argue that he didn't know she was 'being trafficked', and it will not be easy on her part to prove that he was aware that was the situation. And that's assuming she can even get him to admit sex happened (or prove it somehow).
My guess is there might be an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed amount where Andrew admits no wrong-doing ... and I hope she takes him for a lot!

(32,823 posts)I think Ghislaine has a lot to answer for. Giuffre sued her 3 or 4 years ago and it was settled in court with "no admission of guilt." However at the time there were no criminal charges pending against Maxwell. Times are different now.
