The Republican National Committee has removed a webpage from 2020 in which it praised Donald Trump for signing a "historic peace agreement with the Taliban."
David Weigel, of The Washington Post, was the first to spot that the page had been removed with the web address redirecting to a 404 error page featuring the quip: "It looks like you're as lost as Biden is."
The Guardian's congressional reporter Hugo Lowell later confirmed the webpage's removal after successfully tracking down the now-deleted page via The Wayback Machine digital archive.
Featured as part of a section titled "President Trump Is Bringing Peace In The Middle East," the page described how the former U.S. president had "continued to take the lead in peace talks."
The page also claims that "while President Trump has championed peace, Joe Biden has taken the lead in pushing for endless wars."

(52,317 posts)the taliban got their leaders freed, 5000 troops freed, and it looks like complete control over the whole of afghanistan.
for it to be a "deal", both sides need to get something.
what did we get, other than "out"?
"deal" or "peace deal" seems to be a very generous term for what appears to be "surrender".

(5,727 posts)Republickscum probably got a li'l kickback from all that money that "disappeared" into Afghanistan.
Dim Don got to pretend he was The Greatest Peacemaker, Love the Peace, Bigliest of All Time, Peacemaker for the cult.
The Soviet Union spent itself into oblivion trying to conquer Afghanistan, then the cult of Ronnie the Naptime Jellybean Cowboy Robot gave Ronnie credit for that nation's collapse.
One might be forgiven for wondering if the men controlling Ronnie looked at each other and said, "Hey, do y'think that could work on America?"

(45,528 posts)Voters have to be pretty dumb to not put blame on the GOP for Bush/Cheney's miss-spent trillions. And they are that dumb. Good that this happened in Biden's first year because they'll forget by election time.

(18,319 posts)On February 2, 2020, the Trump Administration signed a preliminary peace agreement with the Taliban that sets the stage to end America's longest war. Under the agreement, the U.S. will withdraw nearly 5,000 troops from the country in 135 days in exchange for a Taliban agreement to not allow Afghanistan to be used for transnational terrorism.
Time Magazine reported that other components of the agreement included an agreement that U.S. counterterrorism forces stay in the country, permissions for the CIA to operate in Taliban-held areas, and details of how the Taliban's promises to reduce violence will be monitored and verified. The deal has been called the " best chance to end this conflict ," a " decisive move " towards peace, and " the best path " for the United States.
The war in Afghanistan is the longest in U.S. history, a conflict that has killed more than 3,500 U.S. and NATO troops and cost U.S. taxpayers nearly 900 billion dollars. As part of the peace agreement, the Taliban and the Afghan government recently began historic peace, talks which would end decades of war that Afghanistan has consumed.
The negotiations will cover the terms of a " permanent ceasefire, the rights of women and minorities, and the disarmament of the country's many militia groups ."

(22,166 posts)when they had the Executive Branch of government, and used their time to "Jared Kushner'ed" their way across the entire spectrum of foreign relations, making poor policy decisions all across the entire scope of foreign policy. I suspect that they embedded some sort of secret deal to benefit rump and others personally and nothing else.

(32,748 posts)... that some of us were smart enough to save.
Here's the GOP doing the same thing - scrubbing something that proved to be embarrassing as soon as Chump did an about-face, and blamed the withdrawal of Afghanistan on Biden.
Why do they bother to save anything about Chump? Sooner or later, everything Chump said and did will become an embarrassment.
