The state of Mississippi has the one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, and is averaging over 3500 new coronavirus cases per day.
That number just went up.
U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, 70, Mississippi's senior senator and a Republican, just contracted COVID. He has been vaccinated, his office said in a statement.

Of course he doesn't like wearing masks, so...

King's not so bad, and, though Hick is not the Senator Bennet is, I don't wish him any ill. At least he's oin our caucus.

Seriously, most of what Google pulled up on a search for "CCC" was about that. I also got (equally unhelpful) stuff on the City Colleges of Chicago.

(21,633 posts)It was formed by KKK members and sympathizers as part of their effort to re-insert themselves into Southern elected politics in the 1980s (many had been forced out by the Kennedy/Johnson-era Justice Dept's crackdown on the KKK, as well as the more moderate Southern politics of the 1970s).
During the Trent Lott scandal in '02 (remember that one?), most of the white Southern GOP congressional and senate delegations were said to be CCC.
They try to stay low-key - but pop up in the news from time to time (usually related to a hate crime).
Most recently, after the 2015 Charleston Massacre, when it was revealed that Dylann Roof belonged.

(21,633 posts)The CCC is a common denominator in most of today's Southern GOP - and helps explain the party's radicalization as a whole.
Naturally, they like to keep a low profile.

(7,895 posts)How many Senators and Congress people? How many of the high, the mighty, and the ultra-wealthy hiding behind them? How many Governors, GOP "advisors", staff, talking heads, RW think tank nabobs, conservative media "personalities"?
We get almost hourly updates on the numbers of citizens who've been bitten or succumbed. We hear in dramatic tones how TFG, DeSantis, Abbott, and the entire conservative "news" sphere sanctimoniously attack common sense and intelligent responses to COVID. But we're never offered a sense of proportion in regard to their distain and calumny as they sneer at COVID and those who cope with the damage and the danger.
I think it is time for the nation to have an accurate picture of just how many of "them" have been bitten by this bug.

(5,857 posts)is a much more Trent Lott or Thad Cochran republican at heart than a Marsha Blackburn. I wish him well because any replacement will be much, much worse. For instance his kids went to an integrated public school in black neighborhoods, and all his potential replacement possibilities will have gone to white Christian acadameys.
