Simone Biles Breaks Down at FBI's Nassar Failures: 'I Blame an Entire System'
Source: Daily Beast
Celebrated Olympic gymnast Simone Biles delivered emotional testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, slamming the entire system that she says enabled disgraced Olympic doctor Larry Nassar to sexually abuse her and hundreds of other young women and girls. To be clear, I blame Larry Nassar and I also blame an entire system that enabled and perpetrated his abuse, Biles said as she fought back tears during the Senate hearing on the FBIs mishandling of sexual abuse allegations against Nassar.
Biles said that USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee knew that she was being abused by their official team doctor and yet did nothing. Then, in July, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released a bombshell report that detailed the FBIs stunning failures to properly investigate allegations against Nassar. While senior officials at the FBI Indianapolis Field Office sat on their hands, more than 70 athletes continued to be abused, the report found. Investigators then lied to when confronted with those failures to act urgently. Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics this summer after withdrawing from a majority of the Games, citing mental distress.
Three other star gymnasts testified WednesdayMcKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Maggie Nichols, who was identified as Athlete A, the first person to lodge claims against Nassar in the summer of 2015, citing abuse that began when she was 15 years old and led to back pain. Raisman said the trauma of coming forward with abuse allegations was so severe that she often struggled with basic tasks. I didnt even have the energy to stand up in the shower, Raisman said. I would have to sit on the floor and wash my hair because standing up was too exhausting for me.
Im 27 years old and my 80-year-old grandfather has more energy than I do, she added. In a fiery testimony, Maroney said that she was shocked when she learned that the FBI had not just failed to fully investigate her abuse claims. When agents documented her allegations more than a year later, they had fabricated their own narrative and made entirely false claims about what she said during an interview, she said. They chose to lie about what I said and protect a serial child molester rather than protect not only me but countless others, Maroney said.

All those involved in the FBI cover up need to go to prison and file as sex offenders. This is unacceptable - why is Garland not prosecuting!!!!!! He needs to go, if you do not protect children and women - who will he protect. Oh yea he is going to protect Trump against the women who was allegedly raped by him. Biden needs to step up and do what is best for this country - I don't care what his alliances are to Garland

(129,068 posts)it's difficult to "fire" one. So since they had the justification to that in this case, there are folks in some deep doo doo, and I expect some violations of criminal statutes to get invoked at some point.

Oh, and they've fired one of the agents involved so far.
Remember, this is not tRump's or any other Republican administration's DoJ. It's Biden's.

(1,364 posts)is that the DOJ didn't not even bother to show up - where were they? Country over party....end of story.

(32,626 posts)I have no idea who/what/why/ of the DOJ was not at the hearing. But, I like to find out such things before I go off on people.
Who was the agent recently fired over this?
Larry Nassar, a former USA Gymnastics physician, was found to have sexually assaulted hundreds of victims and had thousands of images of child pornography in his possession
According to the DOJ report, USA Gymnastics contacted the FBI about allegations against Nassar as early as July 2015, but it took months before the agency opened a formal investigation

Now that my husband and I are older and run with the Geritol generations, I'm amazed that we know a number of people who are suspicious of prescription medications and prefer alternatives that invariably haven't gone through the FDA required clinical trials and approval process.
We don't know anyone who's actually died from a standard prescription medication, but I can think of 4 right now who claim they almost died from one or more, mostly blood pressure medications I think, and are alive because they took themselves off them -- and were forced to find unapproved alternatives that work much better.

(1,364 posts)Not showing up is part of the DOJ response??? Please explain to me why this is a good response?

(8,287 posts)Come on already! These little girls were abused by a pedophile and the FBI ignored them! Considering this was my home flicking state of Indiana, I want everyone to go to jail with Nassar!

What is the point of reporting abuse if our own FBI agents are going to take it upon themselves to bury that report in a drawer?"

(1,364 posts)needs to head the FBI. Wray needs to go. The FBI wants to break down doors not investigate child abuse. Let me get this straight if I don't want to do that part of my job that "I don't like"....that is ok??? They need to go to prison and file as a sex offender

(6,974 posts)I've seen WAY more than enough. HE HAS to go!!!! I also wish Pres. Biden could clean up the FBI, but that's far more difficult, because tRump stacked the FBI with his legions of liars, crooks, thieves who covered for a child molester in Nassar.
Wray covered for his buddy the beer man on the Supreme Court, and did nothing when all of those tips came pouring in on that damn drunk on the High Court.
