George Floyd memorial statue in New York City defaced again

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — A statue honoring George Floyd in New York City’s Union Square Park was vandalized on Sunday, police said.

According to police, a video showed an unidentified man on a skateboard throwing paint on the statue at approximately 10 a.m. then fleeing. Nearby statues of late Congressman John Lewis and Breonna Taylor, a Louisville, Kentucky, woman shot and killed by police last year, apparently weren’t touched.

Police have not released the video.

Sunday’s act wasn’t the first example of vandalism to the statue memorializing Floyd, whose killing at the hands of police in Minneapolis last year galvanized a racial justice movement across the country.

Who knows? Maybe they're not releasing the video because it shows a cop doing it.

Sadly, there have been a few recent incidents of racist vandalism and defilement that I have read about that weren't perpetrated by the sorts of people one would ordinarily associate with this kind of vile behavior. My initial response to those reports was, naturally, one of outrage. When it was learned later on that the incidents were either staged by people who should know better or were straight-up hoaxes, I felt manipulated. That is NOT a feeling I like experiencing about topics I feel passionately about.

At any rate, I hope the authorities catch whomever did this soon

Americans have hate in cultural, racial, gender subjects that will always be with us. 1619-present my precedent for this comment. All people of good intent, compassion and mercy can do is stand together wherever and whenever necessary. To turn back the sexist, racist fascist thugs trump released upon American society will take a lot of work and vigilance. 2020 did show me and proved we can do it. It's a civil war we can win.
