Biden's popularity rises slightly as coronavirus cases fall: Reuters/Ipsos poll

Source: Reuters via MSN

U.S. President Joe Biden’s approval rating has increased somewhat over the past few weeks, according to Reuters/Ipsos polling, as coronavirus infection rates slowed.

The latest national public opinion poll, conducted Oct. 6-7, found that 48% of U.S. adults approved of Biden’s performance in office, which is up by 4 percentage points from a similar poll that ran in mid-September.

Meanwhile 47% disapproved of Biden in the latest survey, which is down 3 points from the September poll.

The rise in Biden’s approval has mirrored a recent drop in U.S. coronavirus cases. A Reuters tally shows there are a little more than 100,000 reported cases on average each day, which is 40% of the peak infection rate in January.

The president's standing with the American public recently has been entwined with the state of the U.S. pandemic.

Substantially higher than the 38% from the Quinnipiac poll.

The polls are what the polls are.

It should get better: The scary Haitians are gone from the border. Covid is coming under control. Next months job report should be better. I think the biggest worry is inflation.

4. But NPR, in its eagerness to put down Biden,

reports that his approval is 38% and likely to fall more because they say that he is getting nothing done and Democrats are trying to do too much at once while being divided and in disarray.

Their corporate sponsors are afraid of Biden's economic programs.

They are mad he wants to do something that might help regular people and raise taxes on the Uber-wealthy. They will do anything to undermine him and his agenda (and some other Dems) until he “straightens out” and plays ball. That means drop all this green nonsense, elder care and stuff for children and just do the corporate giveaway stuff in the bipartisan bill.

a negative image of both Biden and Trump in order to influence public opinion toward someone (preferably Republican) who will favor corporate interests. In the process, they risk letting Trump or a Trumpian candidate take over in 2024. Meantime, if they can get more Republicans in Congress in 2022, that will block Biden's agenda.

So how do we counteract the negative media portrayal of Biden to stop the media from getting their way?

corporate ever since Biden's inauguration. Every newscast and current events talk show on NPR now criticizes him for Afganistan, Haitian immigrants, immigrants in general, and questions whether he is competent to be president. They go beyond Biden to critique Dem governors and legislators while giving the RW extremists in Congress a free pass.

They have remained steady in calling Jan 6 an insurrection and calling out Trump's lie about having won. But they ignore giving in depth coverage to serious issues facing the country. It's nauseating to hear morning NPR programs simplifying current issues in breathlessly light tones of both siderism, with a subtle but real bias to the right. They sound like a group of middle school kids exchamging gossip instead of adult journalists doing in-depth reporting.

that the pandemic just seems to take its own path. In retrospect it is not clear if any public policies had much of an impact on it.

15. Trump got the blame in '20 and likely lost because of it.

It's going to happen, approval polls are irrational. President means you get the blame for everything.

Biden's got no control over energy prices which are being driven by European needs now, but people feel it at the pump, and SOMEONE MUST BE BLAMED.

If we still have supply issues, if gas is over $3-4 a gallon everywhere, if inflation keeps up & isnt transitory, etc; there's going to be trouble. The President gets credit & blame regardless of how much impact he or she actually has on the issues. People HERE know how these things work, but the average voter, who wins elections, doesnt.
