McConnell says he won't help Dems raise debt limit again
Source: AP
WASHINGTON (AP) Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday he would not again help Democrats extend the government's borrowing authority, raising fresh doubts about how Congress will avert a federal default when a temporary patch expires in December.
McConnell issued his warning in a letter to President Joe Biden a day after the Senate approved a $480 billion boost in the federal debt limit, enough to last about two months. In an eleventh-hour turnabout, the Kentucky Republican was among 11 GOP senators who provided decisive support Thursday for a procedural move that opened the door for subsequent Senate passage of that measure with only Democratic support.
Some GOP senators openly criticized their leaders not holding out longer against Democrats' efforts to extend the debt limit, which they said would have sharpened their message that a still-developing multibillion-dollar package of Biden's top domestic priorities is wasteful and damaging to the economy.
McConnell said Friday that he made his decision to refuse future help because of his opposition to the huge domestic bill and because of a bizarre spectacle" on the Senate floor by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. After the bill passed, Schumer criticized Republicans for trying to push the country over the cliff's edge" by opposing the debt limit extension.

And the right-wing media made him out to have some kind of principle instead of just being an extortionist.
Now, having gotten all the delay, distraction, chaos, and biased coverage he could, he kicked the cab down the road to set the stage for a sequel in a few months.
By then, the right-wing media will have forgotten this round and will once again play right into the Republican agenda of obstruction and blaming democrats for the problems republicans create

(435 posts)The 14th amendment guarantees all public debt by the US government. We will pay off the debt, but cancel Medicare. Oh well!
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

(38,458 posts)...I remember sending money to Amy McGrath who was running against him...hoping that he would lose, but
that was wasted money..McGrath lost by close to 20%..
McConnell doesn't give a damn about Biden and the U.S.A. He made a deal once,,now...and he says he won't
make a deal in December.. Even though the debt was raised by Trump over and over again.. McConnell helped
Trump, but won't help the U.S.A..........................(think about that one for a while)
And I hate him too...for the above reason...(about helping Trump) and his behavior around the nomination of a
Supreme Ct Justice that McConnell wouldn't even allow a vote on...(Obama's appointment)
...............NOT EVEN A F**KING VOTE........................................

(6,943 posts)Of course a piece of shit stinks, but if the media sticks a nose close enough for multimillions to smell it they are equally culpable.
If sponsors pay them to bring the smell of shit into everyones home tuned into that outlet, they are even more guilty.
Propaganda for profit is the Trojan Horse of a politically free but capitalist society. It sneaks political thought into economic situations, and then the profiteers and weak capitalists earn money from destroying the U.S. from within.

(2,406 posts)Is one of the biggest seditionists* we have in this country. He should be investigated, criminally, tried, and convicted.
*I used seditionist deliberately vs traitor because treason is defined specifically in The Constitution:
Article III, Section 3, Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
Whereas sedition is defined in US criminal code under Seditious Conspiracy:
If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.
IMO, he's guilty of trying to overthrow the government by destroying its credibility and credit, at a minimum, if not in other ways.
Facebook, the RepubliKKKan party in general, and specific individuals like McConnell, Bannon, tRump, the Mercers, the remaining Kochroach brother, and others are all guilty at some level.
