Biden hosting in-person talks to negotiate with volatile House Democrats

Why it matters: This is the latest in the presidents efforts to appease the more volatile parts of his partys coalition as Democrats wrangle over how to cut the social spending package down from $3.5 trillion to closer to $2 trillion.
The two factions are still far apart on key provisions, including prescription drug reform, climate change and Medicare expansion.
The president will meet with each group separately to hear their factions' demands and complaints as Biden continues to act as chief negotiator.

(6,115 posts)What am I missing here?
Last time I looked all the volatility was on the Senate side.
Are the house progressives going to be blamed for the failure?

(129,987 posts)the House has to originate money bills and in this case, there are others in the House outside of the ones who "make the news" and have a "big twitter presence" who are also pushing or balking, and that goes for all ends of the House Democratic spectrum.
For example, House members like Connor Lamb, who is a conservative Democrat. In fact, pretty much everyone on the House "Problem Solvers Caucus" - https://problemsolverscaucus.house.gov/media/press-releases/problem-solvers-caucus-announces-new-members-117th-congress
And in reality, the same is the case in the Senate. Everyone hears about "Manchin and Sinema" because they are the ones showboating, but the Senate also has people like Coons, Hassan, Warner, Shaheen, Carper, Bennet, and yes even King and Feinstein, when it comes to pushing back against some of the more left progressive agenda, particularly when it comes to financial things.
I.e., the various iterations of the reconciliation have not been all "48 - 2" Democratic support in the Senate as if there are automatically 48 far left Democrats there to counteract a Manchin and Sinema.

(12,393 posts)Big tent has . ....Left (Liberals/Progressives). . ...Moderate(Liberals/Progressives) .. .Centrists. . .Conservatives. . in the Democratic Party. Manchin is the over the top conservative. Sinema is just greedy.
Same for the house. I know there are a few over the top conservatives. Hopefully all will probably be represented at the meeting and as painful this is and should be a no brainer, it's like family members disagreeing
As Democrats, all should be on board "Build Back Better", and yet, I personally don't want Democrats windup as republicans with single marching orders by their fucked up masters.

(15,325 posts)If they all truly gave 2 shits more about this country, about the people who PAY THEIR F'ing SALARY +BENES, than their own political posturing & profile raising, President Biden would be tending to the next phase of his policy plans for the longterm sustainability of America, rather than babysitting a bunch of incompetant, self serving, overpaid grandstanding egos.
Lets pull it all up, look at the ACTUAL accomplishments of the biggest & loudest footstompers in our legislative body, & see who's been growing their wealth via grandstanding for the media, & who's record shows they have earned the taxpayer gifted paycheck.
This bullshit is intentional.
