Biden 'positive' on budget deal; Manchin OK with wealth tax
Source: AP
WASHINGTON (AP) Pivotal Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin appears to be on board with White House proposals for new taxes on billionaires and certain corporations to help pay for President Joe Bidens scaled-back social services and climate change package.
Biden said Monday he felt very positive about reaching agreement on his big domestic policy bill, aiming for votes in Congress as soon as this week though that is far from certain.
Thats my hope, the president said before leaving his home state of Delaware for a trip to New Jersey to highlight the child care proposals in the package and his infrastructure measure.
Democrats are working intensely to try again to wrap up talks, scaling back what had been what had been a sweeping $3.5 trillion plan so the president can spotlight his administrations achievements to world leaders at two overseas summits on the economy and climate change that get underway later this week.

(31,109 posts)Wealth tax is not what is proposed though, so is this how she wiggles out of it? Or am I wrong, a wealth tax is what is in the proposal?

Sinema needs to go and we Democrats in Arizona will make that happen. Our bench is very deep here and the GOPers are losing their power except in NW Arizona, SE Arizona, and the Maricopa County East Valley

"On what?" I naturally queried.
"Well," she replied, "that depends, too."
"Have a nice life," I said, then walked away quickly. I did not need that kind of shit in my life!

(388 posts)Manchin today said he's still sticking to $1.5 trillion. I think everything out there said by others is just optimism. I don't think they're anywhere close to coming to a deal.
