John Eastman, the former Trump lawyer who authored the infamous "coup memo" on how to overturn the 2020 election, was caught on camera saying his coup plan would have worked if it wasn't for former Vice President Mike Pence, who Eastman described as "an establishment guy."
Lauren Windsor, a progressive activist who is known for posing incognito to draw out revealing statements from Republicans and conservatives, spoke to Eastman at an event hosted by The Claremont Institute, Eastman's employer.
Pretending to be an outspoken Trump supporter, Windsor tells Eastman, "I read your memo and I thought it was solid in all of its legal arguments. And I was floored that Mike Pence didn't do anything. Why didn't he act on it? You gave him the legal reasoning to do that."
"I know, I know," replied Eastman.

Here's the clip again, but this time with Maddow's commentary.
"And I'd have gotten away with it, too, if not for these meddlesome law-abiders!"

(36,917 posts)Both Mike and Donald have indicated a desire to run for 2024 Prez. Just think how nasty they can and would be toward each other.
Mike would stand no chance.

(43,295 posts)and that is under the original system, the VP was supposed to be the presidential candidate who got the second highest number of votes - and therefore of the opposite party from the president.

(855 posts)Trump's term expired January 20th at 11:59.59. That's in that damn piece of paper. Makes no difference what Pence would have done. The presidency would have gone to the speaker of the House who was already sworn in and working since both idiots would be regular citizen as of noon on the 20th.
Remember, the main idiot was still pres. for 14 more days then that's all, folk!
January 20th, meet President Pelosi!
