Ex-president sued to stop the National Archives from transmitting documents to the House committee

Donald Trump is trying to block documents including call logs, drafts of remarks and speeches and handwritten notes from his chief of staff relating to the 6 January Capitol riot from being released to an investigating House committee, the National Archives revealed in a court filing early on Saturday.
The former president has sued to stop the National Archives transmitting those documents, and thousands more, to the House committee investigating the attack. Joe Biden declined to assert executive privilege on most of Trumps records after determining that doing so is not in the best interests of the United States.
On 6 January, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of Bidens election victory. Trump was impeached by the Democratic-led House for inciting the riot but acquitted by a Republican Senate.
The House select committee investigating 6 January contains only two Republicans, the anti-Trump conservatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, after House GOP leadership sought to place Trump allies on the panel and then withdrew co-operation.

(9,978 posts)Allowing this case to move through the normal process, which often takes years, would be a travesty. Citizens need to know what Trump and his minions did to foment an insurrection and treason against the government of the United States as soon as possible.

Thats been the headline since 2015.
Has anyone in history had more to hide, still appointed President, impeached twice, under multiple criminal investigations, headed up a government takeover, still trying to throw out a completely fair election of the people, lead a violent insurrection, still pushing a coup takeover, and may very well be appointed again. And fully supported by the law and order party? And we want to go to war to force our way of government on other counties. How do the countries with our troops and bases in their back yard feel about us?
The sucking sound is deafening. We really, really suck.

(13,582 posts)Wrong. We all know TFG has a prodigious phone and text/tweet habit so these records provide a necessary tick tock of his day - but more importantly - they will tell us who and when he was speaking with. How else are we going to get the congressional traitors nailed down?
Time to release all records and let the chips fall where they may.

"Chutkan is slated to hold a hearing on Trumps bid to block access to his records on Thursday. Shes been among the most outspoken judges on the federal bench in Washington, D.C., to call the Jan. 6 attack a fundamental assault on democracy driven by rioters loyal to Trump. In the chaos that day, multiple rioters died, and more than 140 police officers were injured."

I just hope that her decision isn't appealed.
