Biden expected to replace Ron Bloom, USPS board chair and key DeJoy ally, on postal board

President Biden is expected to announce Friday that he will not renominate Ron Bloom, the chair the U.S. Postal Service board and a key ally of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, when his term expires next month, according to three people with knowledge of the situation. The move casts doubt on DeJoy's future at the agency, said the three people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

Biden's decision potentially gives liberals on the panel another crucial vote to oust the postmaster general, who can only be removed by the board of governors. The nine-member board currently is split with four Democrats, four Republicans and one independent, though Biden has only appointed three members. Bloom, a Democrat, has backed the postmaster general as the agency slowed mail delivery standards and raised prices. Biden's decision reflects the White House's continued antipathy toward DeJoy, who many liberals view as a loyalist to former president Donald Trump.

When asked about DeJoy in February, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said, "I think we can all agree, most Americans would agree, that the Postal Service needs leadership that can and will do a better job." Congressional Democrats are still fuming about DeJoy's planned mail slowdowns in the run up to the 2020 presidential election, his past activity as a Republican megadonor and his financial relationship with Bloom.

DeJoy between October 2020 and April purchased up to $305,000 in bonds from the asset management firm where Bloom is a senior executive. Postal ethics officials have cleared the transaction, and Bloom has told The Washington Post that he receives "no benefit whatsoever" when bonds issued by his company, Brookfield Asset Management, are bought or sold.

(I don't usually do the above smiley brigade but I have been waiting for months and months to begin the process to oust FUCKING DEJOY)

Note that the "Independent" is left-leaning (a major advocate of mail-in voting) and also note that because of that (I), and not only Bloom's slot being up, but a GOP slot ALSO up on December 8, then that means that Biden could fill those 2 slots with 2 more (D)s and not violate the "no more than 5 of one party" mandate (because for the 9 members, it could then potentially be 5 (D)s + 1 (I) + 3 (R)s. - edit to fix).

WTF hasn't he been investigated and thrown out due to his shady dealings and conflicts of interest? This is too important of a job to leave to someone who has spent his entire career trying to destroy the U.S. postal system! If they don't get him out next month, I'm going to be very pissed!!!

at the very least the appearance of a conflict of interest when DeJoy buys bonds from Brookfield. The sales might not directly benefit Bloom, but the proceeds from the sale certainly go toward paying senior executives like Bloom.

Dont care what the letter next to the name is, look at who brought him in.

We need a clean sweep. Probably some decent people got into low level offices under trump.. but we cant chance it. Clean sweep of anyone he brought in, top to bottom.

I agree that it's been an absurd situation, and detrimental to the USPS. However there are retirement funds accumulating that belong to the postal workers. Just like Social Security it was taken out of their paychecks and paid into a special retirement fund on their behalf. Wouldn't the Repukes love to get their hands on that money? Of course, but they cannot be allowed to touch it. I hope that rule gets baked into anything the new USPS Board is permitted to do in the future.

DeJoy's destruction of the USPS electronic sorting machines has cost us taxpayers $ millions. He must be held accountable for that awful decision. He should be required to replace that equipment at his own expense before he walks away from that job.

Time to start over there. Fucking Turtle spent years blocking Obama's nominees for that Board and I am hoping that we can ram through the 2 upcoming vacancies that come up December 8th (meaning they get confirmed by the Senate as quickly as possible, which might be a chore), and then move to the next stage which will be addressing the meat of the problem.

Republicans may drag future nominees out solely because they know the public wants DeJoy gone, and they can frustrate Biden on his removal. Then in 2022 they’ll blame mail delays on Democrats as one reelection strategy. Ted Cruz is still holding national security and foreign service staff hostage because he’s in a snit over the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. Perhaps he’s doing this to support the Texas gas industry, but it’s unlikely that Germany will ever buy US gas because it first has to be converted to LNG, loaded on special ships, and then reconverted to natural gas at the receiving end. Like almost all Republicans these days, Cruz is just being an utter ass.

This December, there is a (D) seat up (Bloom's) and a (R) seat up so the (R) seat can be assigned to a (D) because of the (I) that is there (who is left-leaning) and it keeps takes the (identified) majority party's number to the max of no more than 5.
