Winds up to 50 mph knock out power to 33,000 in metro Detroit

About 33,000 DTE Energy customers were without power in metro Detroit Monday night as high winds knocked trees and tree limbs onto power lines.

DTE spokesman Scott Simons said power was lost to customers in Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, Lapeer, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties. About half of those outages were in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties, Simons said.

“We have wind gusts of up to 50 mph out there,” he said.

Simons said DTE Energy crews were out Monday night trying to restore power.

Yes, this is small potatoes in comparison to the eastern seaboard, but it puts an exclamation point on the size and scope of this storm.
