Reuters) - CNN is closing its U.S. offices to nonessential employees as COVID-19 cases increase, the network's chief media correspondent, Brian Stelter, tweeted on Saturday.

CNN offices will be closed to all employees who do not have work in the office, Stelter said , mentioning an internal memo.

"We are doing this out of an abundance of caution," the CNN internal memo said, according to Stelter's tweet. "And it will also protect those who will be in the office by minimizing the number of people who are there."

"We're not a work-from-home company," they say to the call center employees. "We're stronger together."

Hmm...

Omicron spreads as easily or easier than measles.

Thankfully I don't work from the office, but I have friends who do, and they are very aware of the risk they face daily.

Workplace safety is literally the agency's reason for being.

The whole asinine idea that OSHA has somehow exceeded its authority in this makes me want to shriek.

But then, that conflicts with the whole asinine narrative of "we have to get back to normal."

Sends the message that people are expendable.

Some where I work have the ability to work from home, basically whenever they feel like it, even before COVID. I’m not of that number. It’s like a new chapter of Animal Farm…all employees are equal, some more equal than others.

“Stronger together…”

I’ll be interested to see what they do in January, if this gets as bad as they think. In my case, probably nothing.

That is, two polyester masks prominently branded with our logo, and one small bottle of hand sanitizer. That was in February of 2021.

They also assert that cleaning staff has been specially trained to sterilize surfaces, but coworkers have witnessed the staff going from one cube to the next with the same increasingly contaminated rag.

It seems unlikely that my company is unique or even unusual in this regard.

In two weeks, we've gone from 0 to 50% of new cases being Omicron. The spread is insane.

I got my booster 2 weeks ago, so, as of now, I will go to a small gathering on Christmas. Will make a final decision on Thursday.

my family flew down to Atlanta to attend the wedding of one of my cousins and while there, got to go in and walk around the CNN complex down there. It was one of those glass buildings that was mall-like with an indoor open courtyard with overlooking balconies around the perimeter of the open area, going up several floors. The first floor with that courtyard had a gift shop and I think even food concessions with tables to eat. It was an interesting facility to visit (you could look up and see some of the offices where broadcasts were going on from down in the courtyard). I still have my CNN pencil and mug.

This was back a few years after Ted Turner sold it to Time Warner (a move he later regretted).
