Biden and Manchin speak

Source: Politico

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and President Joe Biden spoke Sunday night after a major blowup in negotiations around the president’s domestic agenda, three people familiar with the call told POLITICO.

The conversation ended with a sense that negotiations would, in fact, resume around the Build Back Better Act in some form in the new year. The tone of conversation was cordial and it was agreed that they would speak again on legislative priorities.

White House staff had given Manchin a heads-up on Thursday that the president was soon to put out a statement accepting a delay in the Build Back Better Act and that it was going to mention the West Virginia senator by name. Manchin objected, asking that either his name be left or that he not be alone because his family had already been the target of abuse and he didn’t want to be singled out.

But the statement went out anyway, and contained only Manchin’s name. The senator then snapped at White House aides and told them that he was done negotiating. The West Wing that was interpreted as meaning that current talks were done but could pick up again next year.

What did Ebenezer Manchin expect? No one should know that he killed BBB.

He did the dirty deed - now he must account for his actions.

Sorry Manchin - the American People and the People of West Virginia - your state - will know what you did and what you are depriving them of.

No integrity. No morals.

How could you live with yourself - Senator (and I use that title loosely because you don't deserve to be a Senator) as you are not living up to your oath of office.

You're fooling yourself or working out of the old political landscape.

It's not Republicans vs Democrats for Trump supporters. They don't care about the Republican Party. How people still don't see this is beyond me. It's solely about owning the libs and if Manchin switches to the Republican Party, and becomes somewhat receptive to Trump, he's golden. Flat out. No question. He'll have completely embarrassed the Democratic Party, Joe Biden and the liberals. That humiliation would 100% win him the support of those Trump Republicans.

You people need to wake up and realize there is no ideology here. There is no political game. It's all about just humiliating liberals and the Democrats. Manchin does that, flirts a bit with liking Trump, and he'll walk to reelection as a Republican.

In fact, I'd wager Manchin is more popular today in West Virginia among Trump voters than he is among Biden voters.

Trump praises Joe Manchin for defending filibuster — despite calling to eliminate it for years

Former President Donald Trump on Monday praised centrist Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., for his support of the filibuster — even though Trump spent years calling for the Senate to eliminate it.

Trump said during a phone interview with Fox Business that Manchin was "doing the right thing" by opposing Democratic calls to eliminate or reform the filibuster, which would allow the party to pass legislation with a simple majority rather than the 60 votes currently needed to advance bills amid rampant partisan obstruction.

https://www.salon.com/2021/06/07/trump-praises-joe-manchin-for-defending-filibuster--despite-calling-to-eliminate-it-for-years/

There is no accounting for what will come flapping out of Trump's mouth next. He has no moral compass. He is truly an evil man who will do whatever he thinks might benefit himself.

Again: Manchin is likely more popular in West Virginia among Trump voters than he is Biden voters. He just pissed all over the Democrats and that is a win for any Trump Republican because that's how they view things. If Manchin were to switch parties, he absolutely would have a good chance of still winning the GOP nomination.

Tho, I've been impressed with his COVID comments and actions (albeit from afar, so I don't know how he's handled other the whole pandemic).

With all that said, I don't think Manchin flips. He has too much power right now to flip. If he flips, he becomes just another name - not the powerbroker he is currently.

And we had good results early on. But there's a lot of vaccine resisters in WV, and they have dragged our numbers down. Last time I checked we were the least vaccinated in the nation. It's a shame.

I just saw in a church prayer group where a 20 year old man is in the hospital with COVID. His family has been told he's probably not going to make it.

Don't give away the store again. The biggest thing they dropped to try and make him happy was the wealth and corporation tax. That really made the peasants happy, as that would pay for the bill. Then Manchin wants to scrap that part. That's bullshit. Its been whittled down enough.

Dec 2021

Well given how Harry Reid just died and the reminders about how he got an 'R' to change parties which DID shift balances well...

No wonder kid gloves are still on?

Just what the hell is going on? Seriously.

Coal Joe in WV throwing a tantrum is in my mind a fine idea. Let him show exactly who he is and what he's out in the open doing which is to derail Biden's agenda.

He's clearly being paid by the 'Rs' which I like to call the GQP now because they are, in my opinion, gone bonkers. (see: Paying Beatlejuces' legal-fee's in NY. Yeah, that guy - They gotta keep 'the cray base' sort of happy so $ keeps coming in? Anyone else see this nutso stuff? Imagine someone does)

Anyway. I digress.

This Joe-coal pushing around Joe-cool in the WH isn't going to fly much longer. Something's got to give.

Just HOW MUCH will it take to out-bid the 'Rs' who have obviously been paying MAnchin?

If Harry could get an 'R' to flip their party what says this WV rogue Dem wont maybe do the same?

I welcome thoughts on this nightmare scenario.
