McCarthy vows to remove Democrats from committees if Republicans win House

Source: CNN

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has vowed to remove three Democratic lawmakers from key committee assignments if Republicans win back the chamber in the upcoming midterm elections.

Citing a "new standard" that Democrats had created last year by removing GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Paul Gosar of Arizona from their committees for inflammatory rhetoric and posts, McCarthy told Breitbart he would strip Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, both of California, and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota of their committee assignments.

Schiff and Swalwell serve on the House Intelligence Committee, while Omar serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

"The Democrats have created a new thing where they're picking and choosing who could be on committee. Never in the history have you had the majority tell the minority who could be on committee," McCarthy lamented in the interview.

The California Republican had previously hinted that if Republicans win back the House, a GOP majority may kick some House Democrats off their committee seats. "[House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi has set new policies here. Those same members that I talked about in my speech ... voted for these new policies," McCarthy said in November, alluding to Schiff, Swalwell, Omar and Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, also of California. "This isn't about threats, but it's about holding people accountable."

Repubs are just doing tit for tat. Most sane people will realize that.

Having the crazies out every night on the evening news won't help Repubs get anything accomplished. If anything, it should motivate people to remove the crazies from power via the ballot box.

Yea, I know folks want instant gratification but elections don't happen every day. And I'll point out most recalls fail miserably. Hold your nose and wait for the next election.

Getting folks to turn out is where the Democratic party really needs to focus. We can't win if we don't get the folks who are already registered to vote to turn out on election day.

This is how democracies die. It is basically the result of widespread apathy that is cultivated by the propaganda that there is actually little difference in either party and the mistrust of government that was inaugurated by Reagan.

Republicans hate our democracy and will use any excuse they can think of to take their revenge - an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. The only GQP members removed from Committees were those who promised to disrupt the regular order of those committees.

It’s time to stop pretending Republicans are a political party - they are a paramilitary force determined to destroy the constitution and all it stands for.

trumpian republicans for their anti-American activites. Supporting the lies of the former president, pushing lies about covid, trying to overturn a Democratically elected election.

It is way past due to take off the gloves, and call them out for what they are, the party of trump, who support the January 6th insurrection, and trying to illegally overturn the Democratic election of 2020.

Start showing the news reels of them calling out trump for inciting the insurection of January 6th, and then within 48 hours how they got on their hands and knees and asked trump for forgiveness. They put the trump before the Constitution, the Country, and the American people.

McCarthy is acting like the cocky fighter trying to intimidate his opponent before the bell, only to find himself flat on his ass having been KTFO. If the Republicans continue to self-destruct but the Democrats are able to sell
their message, perhaps there is hope yet.

Here's a possible horror scenario (which can be avoided): McCarthy and the Republicans could make Trump Speaker of the House.

They're talking about a preliminary report in June, and a formal report in September. What's there to do after the report?

The Repubs are going to make a clusterfuck of the report though. It's 100% guaranteed that they're going to release their own, half-baked, report(s) a few days for the official report(s) comes out.

Yeah they were saying stupid shit. GQP always say stupid shit, what did you expect? They're fucking stupid.

Let them say stupid shit and make fools of themselves while we show the voters our goods. With only one party up there now the committee looks biased to independents.

Now that this precedent has been set, and we're the ones that set it, there's no high ground we can move back to. We may hold off the gqp this next election but they will eventually stumble back into power at some point and they'll be blood thirsty for revenge on this.

This is the same reason I don't think we should remove the filibuster. Yeah, it's fun for a short bit, like maxing out a credit card or buying a new car, but that fun quickly goes away when the fucking bill arrives. And remember that when someone is taking revenge, they like to dig in a bit extra, for the trouble.

Plan for the long term, for fuck's sake. And remember, the situation is never as bad as the chicken little email campaigns we get imply it is. How many "most important election of our life"s do we have to go through before we realize that?
