NEW YORK (AP) Following protests of Spotify kicked off by Neil Young over the spread of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation, the music streaming service said that it will add content advisories before podcasts discussing the virus.
In a post Sunday, Spotify chief executive Daniel Ek laid out more transparent platform rules given the backlash stirred by Young, who on Wednesday had his music removed from Spotify after the tech giant declined to get rid of episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience, which has been criticized for spreading virus misinformation.
Personally, there are plenty of individuals and views on Spotify that I disagree with strongly, wrote Ek. It is important to me that we dont take on the position of being content censor while also making sure that there are rules in place and consequences for those who violate them.
Ek said that the advisories will link to Spotifys fact-based COVID-19 hub in what he described as a new effort to combat misinformation. It will roll out in the coming days, Ek said. He did not specifically reference Rogan or Young.

Spotify said Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, that it will add content advisories before podcasts discussing the coronavirus. (38,583 posts)Of course he's trying to be controversial. That's what gets ratings.
Secondly, I don't know who is editing material for AP, but if Rogan's name is in the title of the article, it should show up within the article long before the 5th paragraph.

AP having trouble finding a war to start?
AP is worse than suckers, news aggregator gone 90% opinion.

(10,095 posts)She turned the AP into a mess and is now doing the same to the Post. Fortunately, she hasnt yet gotten rid of their good reporters, but the tone of many articles has changed. Headline writers now use negatives for most articles about Democrats and Biden (Economy added only xxx jobs when it met expectations). Their articles absolutely crucified him on the Afghanistan withdrawal. They seem to delight in reporting negative Biden polls. They still have Eugene Robinson and E. J. Dionne as liberal opinion writer, along with former Republican Jennifer Rubin who has crossed over from the dark side, for now at least. But they also have the idiot High Hewitt, Henry Olsen, Mark Theissen, Gary Abernathyall of whom are eager to repeat Trump lies and promote every Republican action as necessary to prevent the radical left (all four of them) from taking over the country by fiat.
And the opinion pieces from the Editorial Board are mostly ridiculous. Theyre good at saying what Democrats need to do to protect democracy, but they never hold Republicans accountable.

(6,617 posts)remember the morons who said both sides of the holocaust should be taught in school? But I digress. When i first read the so called "fix" by spotify I wasn't impressed. The idiots that listen to Joe Rogan don't read. They need to play an PSA before, after, and at every break of his show or podcast saying 'Joe Rogan misrepresents the truth" - or better yet - "Joe Rogan is in the habit of telling lies to make ratings"

(9,399 posts)It disturbed when the early reports about Young leaving Spotify said Rogan had a lot more followers than Young did. Do these kids know who Neil Young is and his musical history? Rogan has no "history" other than his stupid "Fear Factor" series.

(45,544 posts)it's quite different than music. No one is going to listen to Rogan's podcasts years later but they will be listening to Neil Young's music.
