ROME (AP) U.S. President Joe Biden joined Pope Francis and a leading Sunni imam on Friday in calling for greater global cooperation to fight the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and other world crises on the second anniversary of a landmark Christian-Muslim peace initiative.
The Vatican released a statement from Biden marking the International Day of Human Fraternity, a U.N.-designated celebration of interfaith and multicultural understanding inspired by a landmark document signed on Feb. 4, 2019, in Abu Dhabi by Francis and Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyeb, the imam of the Al-Azhar center for Sunni learning in Cairo.
The document called for greater mutual understanding and solidarity to confront the problems facing the world. With the backing of the United Arab Emirates, the initiative has gone on to create a high-level commission to spread the message, and Fridays anniversary celebration included a video message from Francis that was also translated into Hebrew.
In his statement, Biden said for too long, the narrowed view that our shared prosperity is a zero-sum game has festered the view that for one person to succeed, another has to fail... Such a view, he said, had led to conflicts and crises that are today too big for one nation or people to solve.

(11,683 posts)They are in the Conservatism cult, equal to the worst of any religious craziness...and are not on board with Pope Francis.
As an aside, I grew up in the late 60s and 70s, and back then the woke Nuns, Brothers, and Priests (not the child abuser types) were all in on love, compassion, and helping the less fortunate. This is lost on many of today's Trumpanzee followers who loath anything they label Liberal, Democratic, and Jesus-like!

(9,372 posts)... though it was tough at times. But you're right about the sentiments back then.
However, the Trump game today is a bit different. It's really to brainwash more than anything else. The name calling and the gaslighting is all psychological bullshit. I sometimes wish we would engage in at least a little of what they do at least to the point of being a little more direct in our answers to this crap so they get the idea. Just philosophical stuff doesn't work since they're so fucking dumb. I spent many years engaging these boobs (I don't anymore) and it's sad just how fucking stupid they are. (And I hope some of you FOX rubes are reading this, especially you Hannity and Carlson folks. You are bottom of the barrel STUPID.

(11,683 posts)Agree with what you say.
But adding the Right/Billionaires wants to de-educate the population. An educated society knows things and questions the goals and activities of the corporate/billionaire elites. So they have aimed at destroying the education system, teachers' unions, by attacking and defunding them (tax breaks for the rich). It continues on to higher ed by making the "tech school all you need" mentality and liberal college education far too expensive. SO we have IGNORANT as much as stupid.
