Elizabeth Warren says the Supreme Court 'set a torch' to the last of its legitimacy

Source: Business Insider

Sen. Elizabeth Warren said the US Supreme Court has lost all legitimacy following the rollback of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark decision that made abortion a constitutional right nationwide.

Speaking on ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday, Warren suggested that Republicans have tried to stack the Supreme Court with justices who would be against abortion.

"The Republicans have been very overt about trying to get people through the court who didn't have a published record on Roe, but who they knew — wink wink nod nod — were going to be extremist on the issue of Roe v. Wade." Warren said. "And that is exactly what we have ended up with."

"This court has lost legitimacy. They have burned whatever legitimacy they may still have had," Warren continued. "They just took the last of it and set a torch to it with the Roe v. Wade opinion."

The problem will be will if SCOTUS, like Clarence Thomas hopes, keeps trying to climb and climb. We can only hope the course that led to the Roe decision is eventually reversed.

This SC has been consolidating the views of a radical minority in the US public over a clear majority. What the SC is doing is highly undemocratic, as they are allowing a minority to dictate to the majority lifestyle, religious believes values, behavior and life choices. This is actually full blown fascism.

What we need is to replace in 2024 the too old, too passive and fading Biden with a much younger, tough and even ruthless candidate who will say out loud that because the SC has become the weapon of choice of the most undemocratic and regressive forces in the society, he/she considers the SC to be illegitimate and will ignore their elimination of a constitutional right, which is also of a violation the right to privacy, guaranteed under the constitution, therefore striking out the constitutional right to abortion is a violation of the constitution itself, therefore null and void. This by the way was suggested to me by a friend, a fairly conservative republican who voted for Biden/Harris in 2020, the first time in his life(he is 75 years old) he ever voted for a Democrat in any presidential, local or midterm elections.

Calling Joe Biden "too old, too passive and fading" is shortsighted. Biden has been a breath of fresh air, just what we needed. If we had elected Trump, we would all be learning how to speak Russian by now.

I would not have taken SC expansion off the table, but since I have been reading about the connections and efforts of Ginni Thomas, I now think that we need to impeach Clarence Thomas. Expanding the Court now would be like putting a bandage over a dirty wound. You have to clean it first. Thomas is not the impartial, nonpartisan jurist that is supposed to be in that spot.

And, what SCJ up and announces that he plans to vote to remove civil rights from millions of innocent citizens? This is bizarre, and Clarence has got to go.

If you think that loss of abortion rights is the biggest issue, wait until they try to remove gay rights from millions and millions of citizens. Women and Gays are not second class citizens. And, we come in all colors, all religions, and all scenarios. There will be a fight. Like, there is gonna be now.

Joe Biden has enough energy and physical fitness to remain in office. The Repubs do not have anyone who can match any of our potential candidates. However, our better candidates are older, have more experience and wisdom. Do not be fooled by a number.

We threw Hillary away probably because she is "too female." We let her get away, and instead got the incredibly dumb, fascist pig called Trump, who proceeded to trash our country like it was a frat party. Let us not make another mistake like that.

Not saying I'm opposed to it, but getting rid of the filibuster works both ways. What if we get rid of it tomorrow and pass a national pro-choice law, and then Republicans win control of the Presidency and Congress in 2024? They will be vengeful, and pass a national anti-abortion law.

That we will add an additional 2 Supreme Court Seats totaling 11...and will be replacing two of the repugs for abuse of their position/ crimes...

But I agree with her and I think the justices that lied in congressional hearings on their confirmation should be charged and prosecuted…how’s that for swift and radical action?! I like trail blazing and I don’t like lying judges. Then there’s Clarence Thomas….I never had any respect for him anyway. He could fall off the face of the earth and no one woul$ miss him except perhaps his loud mouthed wife.
