Louisiana officials delay flood funding to New Orleans over city officials' stance on abortion

Louisiana state officials delay flood funding to New Orleans a second time over city officials' stance on abortion

Louisiana's State Bond Commission denied funding Thursday for a $39 million infrastructure project in Orleans Parish for the second time, at the behest of state Attorney General Jeff Landry, according to a statement on Landry's official Facebook page and video posted from the bond commission meeting.

Landry urged the commission to deny the funding in both instances due to a New Orleans City Council resolution encouraging area law enforcement not to enforce the state's abortion ban within their respective jurisdictions.

The project, titled "New Sewerage and Water Board Power Plant, Planning and Construction" is intended to protect New Orleans streets from floodwaters during storms and be completed in 2024.

In response to Louisiana's so-called trigger ban -- which took effect after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade -- the New Orleans City Council passed a resolution July 7 certifying the city leaders' support of abortion access and reproductive health care by asking police, sheriff's deputies and prosecutors not to dedicate city funds to collect information about abortions.

He’s lost as many cases in court as TFG has. In fact, he signed on to some of the losing lawsuits of the Republican AG club. He also worked behind-the-scenes on MAGA January 6th incitement from state Republican Attorneys General.

He’s a POS.

Most federal relief money comes with federal guidelines requiring certain conditions of use. Landry's bellicose grandstanding may also cost him votes.

Toe the line, or we'll see your city destroyed. They keep digging themselves in deeper, but refuse to relinquish their shovels. Perhaps voters will catch on?

And the feedback is very much against the AG.

There are some supporting comments from nutjobs, but it’s mostly disagreeing with Landry. They are pretty vocal.

Hopefully they remember this when it comes time to vote this AG out of office.

consider this to be even legal? And to have an entire political party support such actions?

Sad times, for sure - and SO much work to be done.............

That States can make whatever decision their little gods desire about taking away female bodily autonomy, then why can't cities or counties? If they think their imaginary sky daddy is good with female bodily autonomy, then let them use their special imaginary god tools like the Supremes do.

Why can't cities use the samething the Supremes have given states and decide for themselves about what their superstitiouns allow.

So what about city's rights???? Why don't cities and counties get the same rights as states? Some of the cities and counties have been established for much longer than the state ever has been.

I think cities should have their own rights like states do. It's the only logical out come when promoting states rights over federal rights; especially if it's based on magical gods.
