Lamborn (R-Colorado 5th) blasts Air Force Academy for "wokeism"
Source: Colorado Springs Indy
Congressman Doug Lamborn, (R-CD5), is on the warpath against diversity and "wokeism."
On Sept. 20, he sent a letter to Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Richard Clark Congressman "expressing his concerns regarding the increasing politicization of the education provided to cadets attending the U.S. Air Force Academy."
I understand that in a Diversity and Inclusion briefing that all USAFA cadets received at the beginning of this school year, cadets were instructed to tell each other personal, confidential details about themselves and share their pronouns, with briefers being instructed to encourage vulnerability for best effect," he wrote. "Presumably the motivation behind these required briefings is to introduce the Academys new minor in Diversity and Inclusion. It will cause some to question whether they even want to enter into a military that puts wokeism on par with traditional military training.
Further chastising Clark, Lamborn wrote, "The purpose of your institution is to make our future Airmen and Guardians more lethal, not more politically correct. This is exactly the kind of woke virtue signaling that has undermined public confidence by millions of Americans in our Armed Forces. Military effectiveness depends on cohesion not division. I ask that you seriously reconsider the military education you are conferring onto our future servicemembers, and vigilantly protect those under your watch from being subjected to exaggerated diversity indoctrination and woke political agendas.

(14,173 posts)Like we did with Brandon.
And to a certain degree the word Liberal. Its still spat out with disdain by Fox and R wing friends, but repeating the word even 10 years ago was like using the word "socialist" today.
Call their bluff.
Being "woke" seems to naturally be an abbreviation of being awake. And yes, its usually about social justices issues.
But I will surmise that those who use that term derogatorily interpret the word as meaning someone who goes, in their minds, way overboard to accommodate others who may have a disadvantage in society because of their minority status. Its about making fun of those individuals that take their beliefs of inclusiveness to, again in their minds, such an extreme high bar, that there is no room for argument. Bill Maher's speciality is harping on the "woke" libs. He thinks it makes him more broad thinking. But he's just falling for another Right wing hit job.
While I understand where Maher is coming from in that we are our own worst enemy sometimes. Human pettiness and resentments etc will rear their heads. Nobody is perfect. I think we do ourselves no good at times. But what is the alternative?
Being AWAKE is not a bad thing no matter if some DO push some things too quick too far for a lot of other people to handle. Every generation SHOULD be more awake to unresolved issues in society from the past. That just seems like natural historical progress

(5,897 posts)A representation of our society. We draw our members from society, and our members return to society. One influences the other but if society is not reflected in the military, then the military will not be the institution we want. And by the way, I served so Americans would have the right to have opinions I might find abhorrent, and to burn the flag if they wished, and to be ignorant asses if they want. Wokeism, whatever that means, doesn't bother me at all

(2,030 posts)diversity (which shows his LGBTQ phobia). People like him get all bent out of shape over whether someone wants to be called by the pronouns they prefer to be called by.
Plus, he probably doesn't know what a pronoun is, and he hates it when liberals use words he doesn't know.
Not too long ago in the distant past, people like this used to sneer at using non-offensive language because it was "PC" (politically correct). I guess that term lost its "oomph," so they latched onto "woke" and their made-up "wokeism."
In other words, true to form, Republicans resent having to treat others with consideration.
Wait a minute! Maybe he's afraid of Wookies and Wookie-ism! A Wookie was a pilot in the first Star Wars, am-I-right???
